Also, how do people there feel about possible Russian involvement in Ukraine? Do people support the separatists, or do they want to stay out of it, or is it mixed?

Many people support the separatists. But people don't like that Putin does not support the separatists.
Yesterday rally ( meeting) for support the separatists was in Moscow.

Sure, you've got parts of some countries like Ukraine, Kazakhstan, and other countries within the old Soviet sphere of influence, but the Russian speaking populations of those countries still consider themselves Russian and look to Russia first.

Unlike English speakers, which many countries all around the world report and read in, Russian speakers don't really have many choices except what comes from Russia.

No. Many Russian people know 2-3 languages. Popular languages in Russia: english, german, china, japanese, french. We make translating. And russian people have good education.

As the representative of frontier management of FSB of the Russian Federation on the Rostov region Vasily Malayev reported, 438 servicemen from Ukraine appealed to the Russian frontier guards about a shelter, to them opened a humanitarian corridor, transfers RIA Novosti news agency.
