In the card game, when do the cards' built-in stat boosts trigger? I can't find a pattern to it. Also it is really simple and addicting in exhibition, but the KOTR mode is weird.

I bought a new, moderately powerful computer instead of a new console so I hope this is real and not another in a line of WWE miscues. On modding: I don't expect custom animations but if create-a-finisher mode is still in, maybe that can be tweaked.
