Now a lot of people are going around saying that posters want to "Impeach Fried Chicken", but this is a lie. We want nothing of the sort. All this impeachment talk is just part of a plan by Fried Chicken to get moderators to feel sympathetic towards him and entrench him even deeper as the perma-OP of the USPOL threads. For this reason, I, and my fellow posters, plan to file a lawsuit against Fried Chicken for illegally leveraging powers that do not belong to OPs, including his bad mis-management of thread titles and lack of up-to-date news and materials in the first post. I would like to stress, however, that this lawsuit is NOT an impeachment proceeding, because we have no intentions of that sort.

Pope Guilty posted:We just have to get to 2016 when it's a Presidential election (higher turnout works out better for the Dems) and the 2010 wave of Tea Party senators are all up for reelection. I'm not nearly as optimistic about 2016 and beyond. By that point it will have been 7 years, 6 months since the end of the last recession, which is longer than the period between all but two recessions in US history (the 90s and 00s) While it's possible that it could last that long, lasting to 2020 would make this period the longest such period (11 yrs). Needless to say, with how badly America has done since the last one, someone is going to be left holding the bag, and if it's President Hillary Clinton, the chances for a favorable 2020 redistricting do not look good. (That said, it's not unheard of to have more than four consecutive terms of one party in the White House before (and thus through more than one recession), but such events almost always coincided with a historical nadir in the power of one of the two parties, which hasn't quite happened here.) tl;dr: I think the odds of a Democratic-held White House in 2020 are not at all a given and a Democratic win in 2016 would decrease them. A Republican win might be better, but even then, it's going into a second term, which could still be more favorable due to incumbency advantages.

JT Jag posted:People. If you have to engage Amergin in a debate, then for goodness sake don't let him take the high ground from the start. If you choose to debate him over a chart regarding future economic possibilities that was made by Heritage, he's already winning. This is exactly what everyone's conservative friends actually do, though, so by that argument they're winning too.

Hey, all you unemployed people! That's right especially you unemployed guys in this thread! Drudge and the rest of the right wing would like to remind you that if you aren't spending eight hours a day looking for a job, you are literally a worthless bum who, they would like to gently imply, should probably be kicked off welfare.

Joementum posted:Provides government subsidies for businesses (Boeing) to sell products (planes) to other countries. It's a surprisingly principled stand for the Tea Party to take on a subject that left-wing Democrats have been quietly fuming about for a while, but is such a low-priority issue that it's never gained traction outside of an occasional backbencher protest bill. It's worth remembering that the only reason this is actually an issue instead of being tea party crackpottism is because Delta Airlines has been lobbying against the bank because it lets foreign airlines get planes cheaper than it does.

Remember when those militias put out a call to mass near the Texas/Mexico border? Well, they now plan to block several border crossings while armed.

Remember when Joementum was somewhat critical of the fact that Reid wasn't pushing nominees as fast as he could, but Republicans also weren't pulling out every procedural stop to slow them down either? That may soon change... For the worse. Drudge is already preparing to highlight an article reportedly headlining the New York Times tomorrow which claims that a majority of Appeals Court judges are now Democratic appointees. I'd be surprised if it didn't result in a call by concerned conservatives to increase stalling any appointees Reid hoped to push through before 2015. EDIT: Granted, there are only a handful of days left in the legislative session before recessing for the November elections, but it may very well prevent Reid from getting very many nominees pushed through in the lame-duck session and work as a useful call to arms to encourage the Republican base to get out there and vote to prevent any more nominees from getting approved starting in 2015. I don't think this has been posted yet: The creator of Arizona's SB1070 may have been recalled from office, but the first vice chair of the Arizona Republican Party has a new idea on how to encourage women on welfare to get jobs: just require them to get birth-control implants or tubal ligations and regularly test them for drug and alcohol use!

Lycus posted:Though we don't use jungle primary for president, it is for state offices and federal legislators Fortunately that doesn't actually matter because California doesn't vote in it's primary until June after the presidential nominee has already been decided. Again, that works in FPTP primaries, but can be a problem in jungle primaries, depending on the number and kind of candidates.
