Actually it's still a good idea to make a website 800x600 compatible, it's just that the ways of doing so have evolved so that you don't notice it as much if you have a higher resolution. That's all I got on this topic, better minds than mine are weighing in on the Zelda-Mario debate and have said what needs to be said.
