A similar relationship to the one they later had with the allies (except now on the defense rather than offense). I find it really really funny, how both sides didn't want to have a shootout with the Germans, hoping they'd keep away the other side. West hoped the Nazis would rid them of the commie plague, and soviets hoped they'd keep the capitalist pigs out of their doorstep long enough. All the while the bad guy was right there all the time. Of course soon after, ww2 broke out. quote:Right Sector members claimed they carried only hunting weapons, while photos and videos suggest this was not the case. What I'm saying is that the west was really terrified of the encroaching commie "threat", and soviets were really terrified of the capitalist "threat", so they just let the nazis do their thing in the middle a lot longer than they had to. At least, that's how I understood it. I'm quite possibly entirely wrong.

This is true. It was a straight up alliance, except for the name. It was really one of the shittiest, if not the shittiest, moves in modern international politics history, from any point of view imaginable. Then there's the "Hey, we'd like that bit of land there, let's make an agreement about it with our mortal enemies that view our whole ethnic group as slaves, surely they'll keep their promise" idea. There isn't a big enough to describe it. Just... how? Why?

I guess this is only kinda on topic, but here in Slovenia we have a semi-large faction now being all apologetic about Nazi collaborations during ww2, by saying "but those partisan guys were even worse, look at all the collaborators they executed, they were just defending themselves". Which is really odd, since anyone still alive is condemning any sort of bullshit and/or extra-judicial killings the commies did during/after the war, but apparently helping the occupier do their genocide thing and flag people you don't like for deporting to Dachau is fair game, if you're defending yourself against "bandits" and commies

sparatuvs posted:Ljubljana's mayor is awesome. He made the old downtown area cars free and added free golf carts. His mayor saga is quite the story. He's being accused of being a corrupt fucker by just about everyone in the country. He got elected into parliament at one point, leaving his mayor post behind. He got elected mayor *again* on the election to replace his recently vacant spot (), because he couldn't become the prime minister (which isn't a bad thing, IMO he wouldn't have made a good PM), and when the mayor elections are up again, he'll probably win, as long as he's running. People from other towns wonder what the poo poo is wrong with people here, why do they keep voting for the corrupt guy, but it's really simple. The previous 4 mayors spent the budget and then decided to go into debt some at about the rate he did, but had almost nothing to show for it. This guy managed to do more in his first term than the previous mayors did since the country went independent, this despite his budget being cut by 50% for a year due to having an unfavourable coalition in the parliament. At this point, the town is net profitable for the first time in modern history, finally shrinking its debts, too. His "trick" is really bloody simple, too. He doesn't do all that much, but what he does well is getting the best people he can for the jobs that need doing, instead of hiring his family and friends for literally everything, which is what usually happens around here (instead he supposedly funnels cash through subcontractors into his own companies).

The monument says, and I quote, "Dedicated to all those, who fell defending their country, religion, homes against the partisan threat," and then some other religious/patriotic bullshit I'll probably never remember. Now, the only country that ever had to be defended against the partisan threat around here was the 3rd Reich, so I can understand how confused he was! After it was explained that that's the kind of poo poo we do in this country now, thanks to a growing revisionist faction, he was pretty pissed. Today was a great day for Slovenia! Several years ago, the constitutional court figured out that since our constitution says laws shouldn't discriminate based race, status, gender, yadayada, the marriage law having the words "man and woman" in it is unconstitutional. The law was to be unchanged, except for "man and woman" changed to "two persons". Today, we, again (there was a valiantly thwarted attempt to fix this back in 2012!) had a referendum, where people decided it's not okay to change this, because if it changes, those loving faggots will steal and adopt all our children, which has been the gay lobby agenda for a long time now.

They can. This whole thing is a complete technicality, and the only thing it'd do is help people who already live together anyway (i.e. you can't see someone in hospital if you're not family, which two men/women can't be right now), and adoption has nothing to do with anything, except demagogy.
