I have a category on Steam for games I regret buying. So far the only residents are DayZ and BioShock Infinite and some dumb indie games that I got from lovely Humble Bundles.

How many game journalists have even watched Citizen Kane anyway? It sure as poo poo isn't the Bioshock Infinite of films.

I'm waiting to install this game until after I've beaten every game that's better.

It will take at least another six weeks, give or take a millennia.

it's a movie about a guy based on William Randolph Hearst and it features everyone talking really fast with almost no pauses.

I really have to ask though: has any videogame critic ever, without any hint of irony, used the phrase "The Citizen Kane of videogames"? I'm legitimately curious.

You know what Citizen Kane did that advanced the art of film so much? It wasn't having a superdeep plot and such, but advances in film technology and special effects. Jib shots, ultra high- and ultra-low-angle shots (in the interior of a building!) and absolute ridiculously long depth-of-field shots. The equivalent would be a game with a not-really-novel but decent story but with such incredible developments in visual effects and game language that essentially every game afterwards would be strongly influenced by this game (despite it being buried by Rupert Murdoch.)

As I played this year's hotly anticipated video game, using my Razer DeathAdder to aim a deadly assault rifle and unload it indiscriminately into a charging mob of computer enemies, I began to wonder whether old Citizen Kane had finally met its match.
