quote:

"We had created World of Warcraft, and we felt really confident that we knew how to make MMOs," Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime explained. "So we set out to make the most ambitious thing that you could possibly imagine. And it didn't come together. We didn't find the fun. We didn't find the passion. We talked about how we put it through a reevaluation period, and actually, what we reevaluated is whether that's the game we really wanted to be making. The answer is no."

I like how metzen has the stunning lack of self awareness to say that its important to know when to quit after sinking 7 loving years into a lovely mmo that deserved to be strangled in the cradle

if your basic idea for a game doesn't start with "why would anyone want to play this game at all" then you aren't making a game, hth

No, it will not. Face reality, don't run from it. There will be people playing WoW 50 years from now.

the fact they waited loving years after dlc became the norm to begrudgingly include it on some of their biggest IPs is kinda proof of this

nintendo's most successful console was the weird nontraditional one with a controller that you're supposed to flap around physically in order to play the videogames.

Yeah I mean it all comes down to your definition of the death of WoW. If it's people playing, then yeah you're going to have to wait until the last handful of weird holdouts dies from assorted sedentary illnesses but when the official servers are finally shut off feels like a better milestone.

Wow will keep living until we forcefully snuff it out

Like even of we try to kill it it'll be like some story where we actually accidentally leave one player alive and he is the one from the prophesy who grows up to be the supreme wow player or something Like the embodiment of that troll self insert guy

What IM saying is that wow is bad

When the stars burn out, when the last gasp of civilization has gone from the universe, there will sit in the discarded shell of existence, the last thing in creation, a guild raiding in some loving instance or other.

they probably kept all that stuff internal, because they realized it was bad and didn't want to show it

i mean they even restarted development completely on titan last year. thats how bad it was. a company that released heart of the swarm said "no, this is too bad, we have to start over."

Most devs put out the lovely mmo first then quickly go f2p until the game dies soon after so blizz is still ahead of the mmo cycle tbf
