Hating an episode of a show aimed at kids because it focuses on the kiddie characters instead of focusing nonstop on the politics because this is a Very Serious Show For Adults is pretty laughable to me, but whatever. Meelo's an rear end in a top hat, but that's pretty much acknowledged and it's basically his thing.

A cute episode, though it was weirdly filler considering how plot-driven the entirety of season 3 and this season has been so far, which probably means the next episode will be a drama-fueled two-parter. This episode will probably seem better if (when) the entire season comes out on DVD and is seen back-to-back methinks as a breather.

It doesn't make sense to a point what Nick is doing, but then again, I wouldn't be surprised if this actually doesn't end up being the future of television - Throw something online, measure out how well it does, and then start airing it on your network if it passes muster. I mean, that's already sort-of the case in the music and publishing industry, so if it graduates to that level with television, I wouldn't be surprised.

Oh. Well, maybe in the darker reboot with an Earth Kingdom avatar (10+ years from now when network interest has returned).

I just hope Avatar Korra features a more satisfying conclusion than the Aang vs. Ozai fight. Yes yes blah blah "thematically appropriate", "they were never going to let a 12 year old actually kill a guy", etc. Still thought it was a cop out.

I hate to say it, but the thematic appropriateness of this series is that Korra dies, thus giving the power completely to the people. It's also already foreshadowed by Wan. And thus Democracy is completely established, with no Arbiter beyond the public themselves.

Kuvira wins. In the epilogue we get a scene with the next Avatar being carefully trained as a loyal Earth Empire citizen.

That would set up an awesome sequel series at least, where an Avatar who has been trained in imperial all his/her life connects with others outside the regime and begins to question the role of avatar, empire, etc., leading to a rebellion.

Which LoK could've been too, but that would've involved throwing Aang's children under the bus and other things that were never going to happen. Ah well, what could've been.

I'd just like a place on the internet to talk about a show that's part of a franchise that honestly means a lot to me without having to deal with one-note threadshitting. That's all I'm asking for.

Except the last thread was poo poo too.

Colbert Report ends, then immediately after, Korra ends. A night of finales.

drat, that delivered. Didn't feel like it had quite the world genocide stakes of the ATLA finale, but then, Season 2 kinda (badly) did that. And there was plenty of destruction porn to make up the difference.

I was against the idea of Korra and Asami getting together earlier in the thread because I felt it was too predictable considering Korra's tomboyish qualities, but I recant, that was handled really well.

That Korra/Kasumi thing at the end threw me right off, felt kind of tacked on to troll the internet. If they wanted a legit lesbian romance they would have actually you know had one like the many hetro romances they showed on screen.

Think hard about why this didn't happen and a certain degree of deniability was inserted in.

I can't imagine the little hints going on and that ending would've happened if it weren't thrown up online instead of television, honestly. I'd be okay for more digital content, if that's the case, as long as it's not PG-13 Spongebob whoo-hoo.

Also, one of the things I really enjoyed about that Korra/Kuvira fight was how they depicted Korra getting worn out and fatigued even as she kept fighting. So often, cartoons just rely on some heavy breathing and sweat but maintain intensity in the eyes and expression, but you could tell in the cockpit that Korra had a look that said, "Man, I'm tired of this poo poo, just go down already." A nice subtle touch that probably only I infer. Whatever. It's a night for fan canon, allow me this one.

Anyone else feel like they might be exaggerating about that Korrasami confirmation? In a show like this, it's incredibly possible they had just bonded over being good friends through all the poo poo they've gone through and neither of them want to deal with a relationship anymore. My gut says you're right and it seems hinted at, but I can't help but feel like it lacked confirmation and could easily just be them being really good friends happy to comfort each other. I wish they went just a bit further..

I'm kinda with a lot of the people in this thread that the Korrasami thing was kinda rushed. What it needed was Aang's force ghost to reappear, along with the all the other reincarnations, and go on a twenty-minute long speech that ended with them chanting, "KISS, KISS, KISS, KISS." Much more subtle, much more poignant. Maybe have Korra shed a single tear before she holds Asami's hand.

Ugh this makes no sense, why is the entire city falling into chaos because the evil monarch was deposed? I could sort of see them making some point against anarchism if they destroyed the presumably democratically elected government in Republic City, but all they did was kill the queen and destroy the wall separating the poors from the upper classes. Is the point supposed to be that poor people are animals that cannot control themselves when not walled into ghettos?

Well, look what happened when Saddam got kicked out of office - The museums were looted, sectarian violence blew up, and poo poo got pretty bad and anarchic pretty fast. And that was with an outside power promising democracy, as opposed to an agitator who was highly recommending anarchy.

Suyin is basically the seed for all the things that are hosed up in Season 3. I mean, Red Lotus was probably around before her, but the whole anti-nationalist routine of Zaofu probably enabled some of the anarchism swell that gave the Red Lotuses so many connections and support. And then she helped train Hitler.

So, yeah, Suyin rules.

That and the catalyst is apparently the betrayal of two people that I never thought she trusted in the first place. I mean she threatened Ty Lee into working for her in the first place. Why did this emotionally shatter her?

It's less a matter of loyalty so much as a matter of crumbled authority. Her projection of herself as intimidating (and thus justifying her mother as weak as opposed to Azula being monstrous) suffered a severe reality check when people began acting independently and unafraid of the repercussions of disobedience. All she had was people's fear of her. Without that, what is she? Her father's selected heir, but when her father decided to be his own heir, it left her with nothing.

Speaking of, I saw the episode where Zuko convinces Team Avatar to let him join, and while I greatly enjoy LoK and roll my eyes at the idea that ATLA is television perfected, I can't think of a single character I care about on par with Toph or Zuko. There never was much of a redemption arc in LoK, it was just murder-suicides and evolved into Satans and imprisonments and reality checks that didn't lead to changed sides, and okay, I guess there was Varrick, but it didn't have quite the drama of Zuko. There's something about that cast that was very likable, and LoK, while it had good storytelling and all that, never had necessarily the most interesting characters, it just had cool concepts like Red Lotus and Equalists and Ridiculous Nazi Mechas.
