Say what you will about all other reality shows, at least they're just scripted bullshit and don't exploit the murder of an actual human being as their basic premise and go so far as to show the victim's freshly killed body bleeding out on the street. Even when A&E first switched to all reality programming, I never would have guessed they would be the first channel to make one that was so ghoulish

There was a GHOST here.
It's gone now.
You're wrong, it's the murder shows with the sultry woman narrating and making cutesy wordplay about people getting stabbed to death while the hot actress eyes the camera over a knife.

I don't know, man.

Here are two good things it shows:
- Detective work isn't about hunches and high tech computer forensic people analyzing carpet threads.
- The person who will murder you some day is someone you know.

They should make a show called the first 48 and use it to document people's first 48 sexual partners and where they are now.

yeah it's actually a good show, here are more things ive learned

- most murderers are really loving dumb
- don't talk to cops if you kill someone
- once you are arrested they're not going to let you go if you just 'give your side' stop talking you dumb gently caress oh ok well you just admitted to being in the house even though they had no evidence enjoy prison

Nah, it's just that most cases on those shows are solved. There are a poo poo ton of murder cases that are never solved, and there a lot of cases that are "solved" but not enough to get a conviction.

apparently it varies widely by region. in dc it's actually more than 50% of murders that are unsolved lol

rural regions have good solve rates, probably because the sheriff knows everybody in town

The First 48 Makes Millions Off Imprisoning Innocents

quote:

In Detroit, city police shot a 7-year-old girl in the head in a bungled attempt to catch a suspect on The First 48. In Houston, another man was locked up for three years after cops wrongfully accused him of murder within the first 48 hours. And in Miami, according to a New Times examination of court records, at least 15 men have walked free of murder charges spawned under the program's glare.

Like the only case they don't break in the show is the one that was a random mugging by an ATM. The dectectives even keep talking about how incredibly hard it is to solve random crimes like that with a connection to follow. They banged on every door in a 1 mile radius hoping to find a place with an outside camera or a witness who saw someone just to get a lead.

Oh, and the key to getting confessions is keeping them talking and just hammering. Once you ask for a lawyer the polices' job suddenly gets a lot harder, and even if you are clearly guilty you can probably plead to a much lesser charge since they can't 100% nail a murder conviction without you incriminating youself.

They threw in a grenade (smoke I assume) and one guy just pointed his submachine gun in there and started blind firing. There's clearly more going on then just the First 48 being sensational assholes.

What the hell did A&E used to be before reality TV? Like, from my memories, it was just Biography, News Radio re-runs, and some Bible show that I enjoyed watching as an adolescent because it showed renaissance art with uncensored titties.

Basically it was PBS but with commercials. Light documentaries like City Confidential or Biography and costume mysteries like Nero Wolfe.

Yeah watching this show, clearly most people seem to not get that you shouldn't start yammering about the case without an attorney, because half the time they incriminate themselves.

They used to really show the bodies like full view. Latest seasons got all pussified and only show like a bloodied hand or just blood. Show still rules though.

they should make more of those shows where they show old outdated viral videos and then cut to reactions from unfunny webzine editors and desperate third-rate stand-up comics. that's the real future of entertainment.

There was a series like that on like Discovery or Science but instead of unfunny webzine editors and desperate third-rate stand-up comics, it was actual scientists talking about the science behind whatever was happening on the video.

Science of Stupid was an OK take on this genre as well.
