The names of the factions in the US theater have to have been chosen as a gigantic troll. "CSA" is an unfortunate acronym for a nation of Yankee socialists in a Second Civil War, especially when there is a faction actually inspired by the Confederate States of America. This faction, meanwhile, has the baffling name "American Union State" (AUS), I guess to help distinguish it from the "Unites States of America" (USA). Jesus Christ. Loving the LP though. Potooweet posted:The story that you'll hear is that the Kaiserreich team was tired of second U.S. civil wars always being about the Confederacy/South Rising Again, so they made the CSA yankee communists, and put Huey Long in command of the Union. Honestly my biggest problem is having to remind myself that the CSA are the good guys, which goes against all my instincts.

Mister Bates posted:Le Guin is an anarcho-communist (a tendency very closely related to syndicalism, with a lot of overlap), so I was worried it would be a utopian political fanfiction about how awesome and perfect the glorious syndicalist society makes everything, but she's never been one to pull punches, even when it comes to positions she supports, so it's actually a very balanced view that goes into some of the problems such a society could end up having. On the other hand, if I recall correctly, it wasn't the syndicalists mowing down protestors with machineguns.

Chief Savage Man posted:Perhaps the intelligence apparatus of the revolutionary government took an interest in Catholicism and appointed their own bishops like China does in order to keep the Pope from putting his own people into influential positions in American cities. Like a way of figuring out how to constitute the clergy, but in a civil way? eta: I mean this is an unfair example because the Church in the early 20th century isn't anywhere near as powerful as in the late 18th century. The Church also has a different character and emphasis regionally... Part of the reason Pope Francis is so strangely progressive in some ways is because he's from a place where "liberation theology" was a thing. Maybe American bishops nominally follow the line from Rome that syndicalism is wrong but don't really emphasize it much. idk. GunnerJ fucked around with this message at 18:55 on Apr 25, 2016 |

Option A: Fully Reaffirm the Liberal Path This shitshow got started because a right-wing hit team assassinated a political party leader. Without that, we would not have radical totalists assassinating the Prime Minister. We can't let these thugs know their tactics will work with further destabilizing crackdowns of exactly the kind they'd want. Option B: Korea Could Be Our Partner, Not Our Subject Clearly, we have enough trouble with dissidents at home, no need to have to wrangle them abroad too. Option B: Defensive Focus Meh.
