ZDar Fan posted:Vanessa Bayer & Cecily Strong: The Ultimate Team This week, on The Prince Variety Special... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ViY_FxcvyYg Say what you will about Chris Rock, the man can deliver a standup set like nobody's business. The third former SNL cast member to host out of only five episodes so far this season, Chris brings with him... well, a couple of characters. His run wasn't all that higher caliber than Sarah Silverman's, owing in large part to the fact that he was pretty blatantly a token hire to combat the then-popular In Living Color, which he ended up leaving SNL to do. His film career and HBO standup specials have kept him going since then, leaving him firmly in that category of celebrity where everyone knows who he is, even if most of them (myself included) probably would have to look him up to see what, specifically, he's done recently. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M9R1E4y7_Js Prince makes whatever the gently caress he wants. He made it when he was super big in the 80s, he continued to make it even when everyone's taste refused to move over to his... unique, to put it mildly, phase in the 90s, and then in the last 8 or so years, he moved squarely into the realm of very listenable music that's still undeniably him. I don't see him lighting up mainstream radio on fire anytime soon, but the benefit of the fracturing of the music industry lately is that he doesn't have to. He can make Prince-Style Music and fans of Prince-Style Music (can you tell I'm one?) can get it and the world is good. Coming soon... We get to find out together this week! I wouldn't be surprised if we have to wait a few weeks before the next new episode, though. We're about due for a long break.

Yeah, next week is off, then back for two live shows, another week off at Thanksgiving, then three more live shows before the holiday break. Tonight, a moldy oldie, from 6 years ago: Josh Brolin with Adele. http://snltranscripts.jt.org/08/08e.phtml The most well-remembered bit from this was when Tina Fey portrayed Sarah Palin in the cold open, followed by an appearance by Sarah Palin. And that is, in my opinion, why the show was submitted for the Emmy that year. The rest of it doesn't really have a lot to stack up for it, though there is good stuff- MacGruber, Tim Calhoun, Jean K. Jean, Narc School (School Full of Narcs.) It's a good show but not the best of the year. Top-heavy with Wiig, featuring both Overexcited Sue and Suze Orman. Lots to cut here, but may not be what I want. SNL Vintage checklist

If it had happened two days ago and had a chance to go viral I'd expect it to show up, but it may not be known enough yet to make the cut. Look for it to be on @Midnight, however.

Yea SNL just doesn't have the time to cover things that happen literally the day of, it IS perfectly timed to hit the @midnight/The Soup crowds though.

This is... a weird monologue. Also, has it been a while since I've seen Chris Rock and he's had a lot of work done, or has he always looked like a teenager?

He's got me at a few bits, and honestly 45 minutes of this, then Prince til the end of the show would make it the best episode of the year.

It was a rough start but he's getting the crowd. Don't know if the monologue will be long enough to completely turn the corner.

So did you guys like forget who Chris Rock is, maybe got him confused with Keven Hart or something? "Oh my god Chris Rock is making a joke about the freedom tower, I'm shocked!"
