And instead of improving the UI, they put everything inside a resizable rectangle so we could do their work for them.

I actually prefer this, because most of my friends are hardcore PvMers and they use gigantic amounts of room on the screen for prayers, spells, a box for each type of combat ability, seperate chatboxes, several ability bars, etc.
A family member of mine who plays a lot of WoW set his entire UI up to make it almost identical to his WoW setup.

Meanwhile I'm a casual player, so I just copied the lower right of the PvM setup so I can see equipped items, inventory, BoB and ability bars+prayers. Unlike them, I also have a music box, a large minimap and a couple of UI elements stacked on top of each other to make room for the game.

How has OSRS handled the split in terms of the ongoing quest lines, anyways? Have they tried to port over some of the new quests, or have they been coming up with their own endings for stuff like Biohazard or the Myreque?

I don't think they have developed anything splitting yet. Monkey madness 2 could be anything, because there's no MM2 in RS3 yet. It seems like they're developing a bunch of the older updates and areas that RS3 forgot all about. They're making the fossil island, and the Inferno takes place in the main Tzhaar city which cannot be accessed in RS3 because of the heat (I think?).

I quit the game when it went 3d, bees killed me when I was afk and i lost some stuff, and it looked dumb anyway. I did buy a lobster dinner with some of the money actually, I got a kick out of that.

They removed all the random events, including the bug swarm. Now when you're chopping a tree in game, but actually in the kitchen preparing dinner, you won't die.

Does this game have some equivalent to Icy Veins where people will explain how to do combat in great detail for dummies like me rather than having a wiki page of "optimal" bar set ups that are missing half the buttons and I guess go empirically determine what finishers to use myself?

There's a combat academy in Lumbridge with a bunch of tutorials that goes over each part of the new combat system.

how do Broken Home huge lamps work? Does completing the challenges permanently upgrade the weekly lamps to huge or are they a one time thing? Are the challenges and the huge lamps themselves repeatable? If I fail the challenge, can I abort and retry or am I stuck with that playthrough for the week? Any tips for doing the third challenge in general other than memorizing the 1500 word "quick" guide beforehand?

After you complete all three challenges you permanently upgrade the reward lamp to a huge lamp. If you fail a challenge you can always retry, there's no time limit. You can also complete more than one challenge in a single run. Completing in under 37 minutes is easier if you have some notes handy, like an old school RPG or such.

If you see white smoke beneath a door, peek through the keyhole and exit, this will instantly dismiss the ghost from that room. You should only worry about damage and deaths when the windows explode and turn the hallways purple. Fortunately it will only hurt you for ~4000 damage during the entire run, if you have an idea about where you need to go and don't linger in the purple rooms.
The demon near the end is an instant kill, but it takes a couple of seconds for him to spawn and he always spawns in the part of the room you enter, so just run to the opposite door and exit/enter if he's in the way.
Spam click on the skeleton in the piano room, because it will sometimes interrupt the search and you won't get the item it's holding.

I made this on the day of release to keep track of gems and key locations, because the RS wiki guide was so loving bloated that I had a 37:30 run where I spent most of the time reading the guide.

I believe I may be well on my way to being the first person ever to loose money at Araxxi.

quote:

Araxxor

If you decide to fight with a friend against Araxxor, that will have an impact on your chances at loot although both players do have a chance at obtaining unique loot. Here are the differences:

Fighting Araxxor SOLO
1/120 chance at a weapon component (Araxxi's Fang, Web or Eye)
1/40 chance at a leg piece (Top, Middle or Bottom)

Fighting Araxxor DUO
1/200 chance at a weapon component (Araxxi's Fang, Web or Eye)
1/70 chance at a leg piece (Top, Middle or Bottom)

Which component or leg piece you obtain depends on a number of factors. What type of component you get can depend on what combat style of Araxxor you're fighting. You have a 1/2 chance of getting the same component style of the boss type you're fighting. For example, if you're fighting a Magic-style Araxxor then you have a 50% chance to get an Araxxi's Eye if you get a component.

If you fail this roll then you have a 50/50 chance to obtain one of the other styles. Following this example, if we failed the chance to the Araxxi's Eye from the Magic-style Araxxor then you have a 50/50 chance to get either Araxxi's Web or Araxxi's Fang.

What leg piece you get depends on what path you fight Araxxor down. Fighting Araxxor down path 1 will get you a chance at Spider leg top, path 2 a chance at Spider leg middle and down path 3 a chance at Spider leg bottom.

Araxyte pheromones work in a slightly different way in their drop chance is effected by Araxxor's current enrage. The higher the enrage, the greater chance at obtaining an Araxyre pheromone. Araxxor's current enrage has no impact on the common or unique drop tables however.

1/50 base chance to obtain an Araxyte pheromone at 0% enrage
1/(50-(Current Enrage / 20)) meaning that at 300% enrage you have a 1/35 chance at obtaining an Araxyte pheromone.

Any leg pieces?

The only really bad part about MQC is grinding all the lore book drops. Last Riders and elite slayer mobs takes forever and is absolute misery.

The rest is just a bunch of post quest rewards you need to claim and some weird old poo poo, like feeding a monkey hundreds of bananas and looting a chest in a dungeon everybody forgot about.

Is it a particularly good quest?

It's got some good puzzles, a very good Thok segment and the final boss is a decent challenge if you're not a huge pvm freak. It's also the next big story quest, if you're into the overall RS storyline.
One of the rewards can help you with afk Archeology training by making sprite focus unable to fall below 10%/20%.

I was not a fan of the parts where you have to run around in all the unused space and dead ends of Anachronia.
