Drug Rug was such a good name for those hoodies. So many boys I went to Jr and high school with. Though I associated them mostly with classic rock kids, which I mean, that tracks. I still see them once and a while. I always wonder if they still make them or they're vintage.

empty baggie posted:They're still just called Bajas around here (NE TN). I first heard the term drug rug a couple of years ago from someone who had moved here from up north (which some might refer to as a carpetbagger, but that's more 1890's than 1990's, although it still keeps with the theme of the thread). I learned Drug Rug from the commentary for Mallrats as the not Brody guy was wearing one.

Beastie posted:Summer 1998 was 25 years ago. The recent summer hullabaloo around Barbie and Opp is something I haven't really seen since I was a kid. Or at least it feels that way to me. That reminds me of, I think it was Todd in the Shadows, mentioning how there's no longer summer jams/songs. At least not the way they used to be. He pointed out that the big songs of the summer a few years in a row were sappy, break up songs and not fun party songs which is normally what a summer song is. You hear it everywhere because its upbeat and fun and people in the summer want to listen to that.

Digital Jedi posted:Oh yea, I hated those PE days. I just want to play kickball or dodgeball, why are we trying to dance? Electric Slide was one of those songs that were really popular among kids in school with me, but i watched much music and never saw it on there, so i was confused that people could know about a song that wasn't out there. That song makes my brain hurt and I find it weird in the US a lot of Eurodance stuff became stuff you'd hear at a basketball game. Also wasn't it WOOP There it is? Yup https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ffCEr327W44 I think one of the first times i bought an tape and realize "wait every other song on this suuuuuuuucks" was this bands first release https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ez3iGG51MiA So i just listened to that one song over and over, Good thing it was the first song on the tape.

I honestly did not know much about No Doubt before watching this, and i noticed that in the last few years people have kind of turned on their earlier catalog, acting like they were a manufacture band designed to exploit the youth market because the powers that be decided Ska with a pretty girl that said gently caress was what was going to be in. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hU55DV6uzB0 Its kind of amazing when Tragic Kingdom hit and it was almost like Nevermind in how quickly it was just everywhere and people loved it. I remembered the first day of grade 13 (there's another 90s thing, grade 13 in Ontario where they actually taught you how University worked and how to write proper essays and such, gone) at least 4 other students had that devil horn hair style. None of them ever had it again because i am going to assume it requires a ton of product to maintain and that wasn't something you did on a daily basis.

We took few trips there in the 90s and that's what everything looked like. I remember all the chairs had that same floral pattern on them wherever I went. I also remember MTV spring break being on TV and Gilbert Godfrey judging a Bikini contest and my sister thought it was hilarious how many girls were wearing thong bikinis. I remember people saying Madtv was better than snl, but snl of that Era probably holds up better. Though amazing how so many actors from madtv went on to become major voice actors. How many voices does Dave Herman and Phill Lamar do for stuff?

I was watching old training videos on youtube and came across what is probably one of the most 90s things ever https://youtu.be/MbVDQKcxg00?si=oxsoV6OjP-Np-kPm Its dated and cringy as hell, but you know what, i bet that helped wendy's employees remember the method for cooking the burger patties.

This Is the Zodiac posted:She played the girl who was hot for Marcia in The Brady Bunch Movie, which is itself extremely '90s despite being based on a property from the '60s. Laughing about how silly the 60s were was a very 90s thing to do. Also just being nostalgic for the 60s in general. Though i think thats more of a "hey boomers, remember when you were a teenager and all you thought about was getting rear end, driving and listening to music your parents hated? Well, here's the 60s!"

I really think all the sour people out there that would say homophobic things about it were just caught up in trying to be hard as gently caress mofos and just wouldn't let themselves have fun. I know in High School if you liked any of this you were instantly called gay and beaten up.

Its pretty much a direct continuation of the 90s series. They even got a decent amount of the VA back, though with some changes, with some being dead and the actor for Jubilee stepping aside so they could get a Chinese person to do her voice.
