If you're going to critique it, you should worry less about it been used and more on how it is used. A good example is Alex Ross and Greg Land. Ross takes photos of his friends posed in how he wants a panel to be laid out with the right lighting and then makes up all the details of the characters as he draws it. Greg Land pretty much copies wholesale from his references with few changes and uses porn as a reference in a way that juxtaposes with the scene. Greg Land has been phoning it in for years.
