He totally misunderstood the purpose of the geartrain on the right. Looks like the motor goes fast normally in the original, and then slows down when that button is hit. On this one, the motor is off until the button is hit, and then it turns on really fast.

I'm very confused as to how you're seeing the button slow down the fan.
