I think the reasons for people’s like of the Dollop and for Mystery Science Theatre 3000 is fairly similiar, and the people who hate both hate them for the same reasons. They don’t want the breakup of the ongoing narrative, even if it’s a bad narrative. I’ve heard the same thing about MST3K, that they’d hate to have people making jokes and interrupting the movie.

Didn't they already do an episode about Lucy Parsons? Maybe I'm thinking of another podcast, or read a long form thing about her a while ago

Cool couple, though

E: No, it turns out it was an episode of Left Coast, which was a show where the lady who made Nyan Cat and a writer from Sponge Bob had episodes where someone literate about a particular leftist thing or person teaches them every week. The Spongebob guy posted a group photo with the Chapo Boys giving a thumbs up selfie against Bill Cosby's star on the "walk of fame" and he got kicked off the Hollywood DSA organisational committee and scrubbed all the episodes off the internet

I listened to at least one ep of left coast, that seems like a shame. I liked it some at the time. Was it worth listening to?

Yeah, Dave is really high strung about this poo poo, and is selfdestructive in the worst way, as all well meaning ultra leftists seem to get when they really get frustrated about inability to effect meaningful change.

Speaking of, has Plan-it Change 20 actually done anything or has it just been Dave's way to complain that the world is gonna burn but not to give us any meaningful direction as his "followers"?

I wasnt sure if the podcast was skipping or something because yeah, he definitely repeated himself a shitload in the few episodes i have listened to

Karen Kilgariff has consistently brought amazing energy to the show every time she's on there. If Dave or Gareth had to step away from the show briefly (family emergency, need personal time for a week or two, et cetera), I'd immediately nominate Kilgariff to hold down the temporary opening if they wanted to keep the show going.

It was also the hosts and their fantastic rapport and energy

These two are the ones that I can't believe haven't been made into movies yet.

Maybe a major studio just doesn't want to make a film where the U.S. armed forces look stupid?

The military would not help them make it most likely, and that already sweeps the leg on a big source of budget. All pro-military movies get a bunch of funding and help making their movie from the armed forces.

Dave has stared down the same problem that all of us environmentalists have had at some point

Where the gently caress do you start to even make a change? There are mega corporations happily venting hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of oil and fossil fuels as byproducts of their harvests, there are military motor pools and airliners that are kept running 24/7, burning more than entire cities’ worth of people’s yearly carbon footprint in just a long weekend, there are manufacturing facilities burning and venting all kinds of poo poo…

Government is unwilling or unable to help, anything beyond criminal vandalism is ignored and downplayed, criminal vandalism is ridiculed, almost all of the major environmental groups are toothless and hollow these days…

:smith: Dave never had an actionable idea, as far as I heard. That’s the stumbling block.
