Here we go again.
My desktop computer case has a very poorly placed set of buttons for power on/off and reset, notably right where a cat can jump on top of the tower and put a hind foot directly on them. I do want to keep them connected, because the power button at least occasionally comes in handy. I currently have a piece of cardboard taped over it but would like a more permanent solution like maybe a hinged button cover about an inch to an inch and a half square. Plastic would be fine.

I can't seem to find a combination of search terms that doesn't get me something designed for a light switch, or that is huge or tiny, or for buttons on clothes. Anyone have any suggestions?

(I just randomly googled "emergency button cover", no idea if they're any good. They may be too small.)

Not precisely, but clicking around got me to something there that I think was a little closer to what I had in mind. Thanks!

If you're not familiar with aliexpress just a heads up that shipping may take a long time (~1 month in my experience)

Yeah, I'm fine with that. It's more of an occasional problem that I'd like an eventual solution to than an emergency. Meanwhile, cardboard and tape.

Anyone have a good recommendation for an entry level sewing machine? My GF has dropped more than a couple hints that's what she would enjoy for Christmas.

I don't know much of sewing machines, but I do know that it does not need to be able to do large things like quilts/blankets, nor anything like embroidery. Primarily hemming curtains and clothes, fixing rips and tears, and smaller sewing projects/patterns.

I'm not an expert but I do the occasional clothing repair and similar simple tasks. I bought this Brother model from Wirecutter's recommendation almost ten years ago and it's been perfect for my needs. There's a more recent model for not much more (the 7000) that also gets good reviews.

Looking for an enclosure for reading data from an NVMe SSD (the little thin SSDs, whatever they're called). Is there one particular good one or are they all pretty much the same?

I've used both of these successfully just to get data to and from an NVMe SSD so unless you're looking for something specific one of them should suit whatever purpose you have.

Any recommendations for a small black and white printer that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg? Probably won’t be used a whole lot but my mom can’t let go of the idea of printing stuff occasionally.

I have developed a seething passionate hatred for inkjet printers, so I switched to a monochrome Brother laser printer years ago and have never regretted it. For only occasional use, inkjet printers would always have dried-out cartridges when I actually needed them. Laser printer cartridges are more expensive but last waaaay longer and I've never had one dry out on me.

I really like having scanning but if you don't need that then a single-function model like the Brother HL-L2350DW will still give you duplex and wireless printing for around $160.

Anyone have a recommendation for Bluetooth earbuds that don't suck and also don't cost a million bucks?

I got the Haylou GT5 and within three months or so the right bud has completely stopped working.

I don't use them constantly but I've had these for three years or so and they are perfectly fine. I don't listen to stuff that needs perfect audio fidelity though so "don't suck" may be relative.

I have a very specific need for a product that I am having trouble finding.

Basically I have a record player that can output via bluetooth and 3.5mm jack. It can pair fine with my little bluetooth speakers, but I want to play the audio over my TVs (Samsung The Frame 2021) speakers. The TV notably does not have ANY audio inputs, only HDMI inputs, so there is no 3.5mm option available. The TV also has bluetooth but will not recognize the record player when I try to pair it. It doesn't even show up on the device discovery list. It looks like the TV is only setup to use bluetooth to connect to input devices like keyboards, mice, and controllers, and output to bluetooth soundbars.

So I think what I need is some device that can adapt 3.5mm or bluetooth audio to an HDMI output, but I'm having a difficult time finding anything. When you search for a combination of HDMI, Bluetooth, or 3.5MM, the results are a million devices for using bluetooth headphones with older TV's.

Does anyone have any idea if such a product exists? I had a friend with a high end audio receiver like 20 years ago that was able to do this, so I assumed it would be like a $20 device these days.

Would this work, or does it go in the wrong direction? https://www.amazon.com/Adapter-Converter-Gold-Plated-Connector-Projector/dp/B08CSH9JKF/

I think this is probably what I'm going to have to try, but I wonder if the TV will stay connected to the input without a video signal coming in. For $12 though I'll give it a shot though! Thanks!

Unfortunately this is the opposite of what I'm looking for. It splits the audio from an HDMI signal so that you can play it on a separate set of speakers.

Someone in the reviews suggests that the conversion can go the other way, but it's entirely possible that they're an idiot.

I assume if that actually worked, the product page would list it as a feature, but it specifically says it doesn't work backwards, so I'm guessing that reviewer is probably just a moron.

Comedy option: I found where someone turned a Raspberry Pi into what I'm looking for, but that seems like an extremely overcomplicated solution.

Could be fun to make if you're in to tinkering like that.

I'll try suggesting this one, and if it's still not useful for an obvious reason that I missed then I'll accept that I am the moron and let someone who knows what they're talking about help out.

Version shown is USB-C

This is your best bet. I tried a few different FM and Bluetooth audio adapters before my old head unit crapped out and needed a replacement anyway (I made sure the new one had BT) and they all had various little annoyances. Go the direct route.

You can even buy a USB-C i/o splitter to plug in a charge cable at the same time. I use one of those on car and airplane trips because I don't like using wireless earbuds sometimes.

I can recommend having Bluetooth media control buttons for use in a car though.

Oh, fair point. I use a podcast app on my phone on a dash mount for that but if you are concerned about distracted driving that's worth considering.

(Actually the new head unit is pretty unique in that it has an app that uses your phone as the screen for everything anyway. As far as I know it's the only model ever made that does it and I like it a lot. I'm pretty sure it's been discontinued.)

I've adopted some real old-man energry and have been feeding the ducks at the park down the street from our house. Getting sick of using ziplock bags. I want to find some kind of narrow and deep messenger/hip bag that I can basically fill up with a bunch of cracked corn and toss out handfuls.

Something like this but not mesh: https://crabhawk.com/product/clamming/clam-bag/

Bonus points if its leather and looks decent.

You might try looking for a "foraging bag". They're typically made to go on a belt, fold up when empty, and most folks make them out of waxed canvas and/or leather.

Here's a random example: https://a.co/d/fKR2cOq but you can probably find better quality if you want to pay more, and even something narrower/deeper if you commission a custom job from somebody on Etsy.

They always have bags at the Ren fair market if you have one locally. We just had our county faire last weekend

This is what I thought of right away. Find a small tent faire nearby if you can - they're chick full of small-market vendors selling simple stuff at a decent price since it's usually not fancied-up and they're not big names or they'd be at one of the larger multi-weekend faires with permanent structures (where stuff tends to be overpriced IMO).

Also my FLGS carries dice bags and other accessories, but they might be an outlier. Worth checking your area stores though.

If you're really stuck you can acquire a bit of chrome-tanned leather and make one yourself with some supplies you can get at a craft store. A simple drawstring pouch is easy.
