I read that whole travel reg before I left and from what I understand it's 55% of both lodging and per diem. It makes no sense to me either. Going down range 100% depends on where you're working. All I can speak is to where I'm working in CENTCOM and there's no chance I'll be sent down range. Working hours depends on your job too. My job is 0800-1700, M-F. I do have to work this Saturday as a building escort for some contractors, but I think that will be rare. I get weekends/holidays just like everyone else. However, my husband was at SOCCENT a couple years ago and he worked 11-12 hr days and weekend duty quite a bit. So if you have a sponsor I'd definitely ask those questions. People live all over the place, but the ones I know that are close to base (which I recommend because traffic is horrible), are Casa Bella and Jefferson Apts on S. Westshore Blvd. Now, with the drop in lodging I don't know how that will work. They are making bank off military folks right now because they take the max per diem. So they make like $3100 a month off me for an apartment that is normally $1750 (I think). It's fully furnished, has a great cable package, is gated and looks really nice. I'd definitely call them soon and get the scoop on what they'll charge though. Yes, CENTCOM has blues Friday's. It sucks especially since I have to park far away and walking in heels is not good. I do see some people in ABUs, but I'd say 90% of people wear blues. Anyway, you can PM me or email at okyots at yahoo dot com if you have more questions. You are correct, it is 55% of both lodging and M&IE. The "logic" is that if you are an extended TDY you should be able find an extended stay place that offers reduced rates. Just FYI, there is language in the revised JTR that states if you aren't able to find lodging within the flat rate restriction (75% or 55%) you can contact the CTO for assistance/to verify that there wasn't any lodging available within the flat rate; your AO can then choose to authorize you up to the full rate for lodging. Still stuck with the flat rate for per diem though.

My boss told me to plan to stay late on Friday so we can decorate the office door for the Holiday Door Decorating Contest. *sigh* Anyone have ideas of how we should decorate so I'll never get told to do this again? (Not that I'll still be here next year, but these people take decorating way too seriously.)
