Every time someone articulates this stupid loving idea I feel a strong urge to adopt a kitten and throw it down a well.

The Apple ads were legitimately successful though. The Mac guy seemed cool to people and the PC being dorky but likable made the whole thing more digestible than taking an outright hostile approach.

Also, I can't stand those Lexus commercials around this time of year where a family gets a new SUV with a big bow on the roof in the driveway on Christmas morning.

Lexus dealers actually have bows they'll give you if you want to do this. I'm not sure if that makes it better or worse.

Tell me why Boeing spends money on ads! There has to be a reason!

There are ads for specific fighter planes around the Metro in DC. People who influence those sorts of decisions watch TV too.

I don't get the GoDaddy controversy. I thought it was kind of ironically funny the way it ended.

Why are people upset about it again? Its not like the van said GLUE factory or DOG RACING or anything like that. I'm a bit confused.

When I just heard about it I expected it to come off a lot harsher than it did. Humanizing a defenseless little animal and then having that person just treat them as a thing to be bought and sold is usually how you establish a villain.

The ad doesn't really come off that way to me but maybe people are just responding to the idea?

Regardless what what particular statistic applies to what particular year I would would have been floored beyond belief at anybody past 1995 who thought computers were just a fad or had only seen one in the movies. That would have been kind of surprising in the late 80s to be honest.

I remember hearing a story, no idea if it's true or not, about a psychiatric hospital that used a radio station as on hold music. At one point the radio station was undergoing a change in formats and in between they just looped a recording of "They're Coming to Take me Away" for a couple of days.

Speaking of misguided attempts to appeal to the kids these days, here's Chevy's latest press release:

The Verge's attempt at a translation. This is what the young people like, right?

I think you're supposed to translate it and send the answer to that email address. See how there's a little person raising their hand like they're answering a question and then the little email thing, maybe that means "Answer email" or something?

Did they want people to post pictures of themselves wearing adult diapers? A bunch of people posting furry porn is actually less gross than what they seem to be asking for.

And while it does make sense, I think "obviously playing into the kooky old farmer man finds weird space stuff" is a stretch. How often does that really get used? MiB? I guess superman? Never seen Creepshow but those 2 examples are the only ones I can think of.

It used to be a common trope. Folks out in boondocks supposedly reported a lot of UFO sightings (This is funny because they're ignorant and often drunk you see.) But I think maybe it was more of an 80s thing, maybe even earlier.

If you look at his Tweets it looks like CP is Club Penguin. He was also unhappy about Trump winning South Carolina so if he's neo-Nazi he's kind of missing the boat.

Fried chicken kicks rear end. Everyone loves fried chicken.

Yeah but it's often used to wink at stereotypes of black indolence. Or sometimes, like other seemingly innocuous stereotypes, it just comes from a dumb limited way of looking at other human beings.

This appears to me to just be a black guy in proximity to fried chicken so the ruckus is a little silly. But given recent events people worrying too much about racism is the least of our problems.

Still not great but at least they painted both halves. And it has some unusual lines as well. So at least they didn't just build two blocky buildings, put the windows in weird places, slap a whacky mural on one, and call it modern architecture.

I don't think I've ever heard The Dollop go beyond 10 minutes of ads and chit-chat before getting to the point. I often use that time to get a snack ready or something and sometimes they're already to the story before I'm done. My Favorite Murder is the one I gave up on for too much yakking.
