There are two major kinds of cockroach, the little nasty fuckers that live around filthy people & garbage (and the reason thriftstores sterilize the gently caress out of everything they get) and then big ole wood roaches, that get into your house if you live near woods someplace warm, or a dirty city (like New York, or your mom's vagina
I've managed to avoid Nasty Fuckers all my life. yay me. But the first time I saw a wood roach when I was down south, I was blown away. Fucker was two inches long. Flew in the loving open door. Jesus christ. Naturally I trapped it under a glass and a sheet of paper and put it out of the way, where it wouldn't be disturbed, to see how long it would live.
Well, it didn't suffocate. And it didn't starve. Little bits of it would wither up and fall off, I guess to reserve moisture. but after two months it would still move around the glass in response to my tapping on it. I think if I had supplied it water, it would've happily chirped around for months without bits falling off.
I took the guy outside and let him go. He was missing a few legs, an antennae, and a wing, but he survived.

i have a past of torturing bugs. in fact, i have a family history of torturing bugs. my great great grandfather tortured bugs professionally when he first immigrated to the US, and my family has been torturing bugs ever since. we even use the same facility. its totally chill though- bugs dont feel it happening to them the same way we ddo, so its not totally hosed up.
