Problem description: My laptop has been having issues that have been getting worse for days. I was getting pop ups and programs were crashing. Now it won't even boot normally. This is being posted from safe mode. It began when using the website couchtuner. Attempted fixes: I've attempted everything in the stickied thread. Recent changes:Used couchtuner. Operating system: OS is 32 bit Windows 7. System specs: Laptop is a HP Pavillion dv7 Notebook PC. I see BitTorrentBar, Babylon toolbar helper, etc. Looks like you have a bunch of crap installed. Probably your usual collection of spyware... What do you mean exactly by won't boot normally? You're able to get into safe mode, so the hardware is likely fine. Have you checked out the "Keep your computer in tip-top shape" thread? It tells you everything you need to know about removing spyware. Hi - thanks so much for your reply. To go into more detail about the black screen, when I rebooted I would get the login screen and then it would just stay black after the login process ended. That seems to have been rectified. I am now redoing all of the sticky steps and have reinstalled Java and all of the Adobe programs. My comp is not recognizing my external hard drive, and I'm not sure why. I was going to use it again to back up because it seemed that it didn't take the first, long and arduous, attempt. I hooked it up to double-check and it doesn't even register.
