Thanks all for the recommendations: I really appreciate it. Lots to dig into!

Is Spirit Island too complicated for an 8yo? It's strongly thematic, and co-op.

I played King of Tokyo with my nephews and they did love it. Actually, they loved it so much that playing it for hours multiple days in a row is now one of my boardgaming circles of hell.

My 5yo loves KoT, I try to hide it lol.

Edit: And Machi Koro.

Under Falling Skies (not sure how this is co-op but people say it’s fun)

Any solo game is coop if you discuss decisions together. Or split the work/decisions.

It's a(n unavoidable?) fault of a lot of 1-vs-many games: if the 1 is too weak, or even too strong, it can kill the game for the many.

Also true of 2 player games or even multiplayer games, but 1v many has the highest leverage.

I've heard very good things about it as a simple fast fun filler game, and for the $8-12 it costs I dunno why I haven't bought it yet.

Yeah it's pretty much this. It's the good version of Monopoly (the brand).

I don't think it's really fair to assume that someone who enjoys KDM is explicitly endorsing the entire franchise extended universe. But I dunno how much snuff porn was on the Kickstarter page or box art so maybe I'm wrong.

I see what you're saying, but it's not my job to improve a lovely company, esp if there's no guarantee that they'll actually improve. Just let them fail and slowly die, who cares.

I damaged my karma enough by buying High Frontier, so guess I'll pass on Stationfall.

Compared to all the human rights violations and coups perpetrated by the other corporations I patronize daily without thinking about it, boycotting Ion seems arbitrary and capricious to me. I guarantee the CEO of Asmodee has done worse, but cloaked in acceptable liberalism.

Beyond everything else that's wrong with what you said, do we really want to get mired into some discussion of what's "worse" than transphobia, anti-semitism, etc? If that isn't already bad enough for you to not give him money, then I suppose that's really all there is to it, and I welcome you to shower that fascist rocket man with all of your bitcoins.

The point is that Phil's problem is his lack of a publicist. His views are extremely normal. I'd be surprised if more than 1% of the CEOs in the country are not transphobic, e.g., and many of them have the power to inflict far more damage.
