Sakurazuka posted:edit: Also I can barely even remember mobile phones being brought up and certainly not 'whoops I've dropped them into the water/no signal', if anything the anime exists in an alternate universe 21st century where tablets were invented but mobile phones weren't. Episode 6 when the dad is in the hospital. The quote is like "I dropped my cellphone and tablet into the water when we were attacked, so I had to use a payphone!" Also my complaint with Murano isn't that she has red hair, it's that she's has special snowflake design and has to have special colored anime hair to differentiate her from everyone when the point is... spoiler alert.... everyone is cattle. Also she experiences some of the more intense art sway between episodes. Edit: Timestamp for that is 18:32 on Crunchyroll in a scene that is there literally just for that line. laplace fucked around with this message at 23:02 on Dec 23, 2014 |

Mentioning it once doesn't ruin the show, it's the build up of little quirks like that in the writing that show how haphazard the adaptation is. Especially when one of the points of the overarching narrative was that communication not being a thing was huge to the invasion, whereas nowadays youtube and smartphones are prevalent and people use them actively in the show... except conveniently when the writers decide that everyone forgets that they own them. This also is a problem with the weird parasyte otaku brother character, who for some reason draws out a picture of the parasytes for his sister when... the computer with the internet is right there and he talks to people on the internet about the Parasytes. The setting change wouldn't be so bad if they... actually rewrote the show to take advantage of it but slapping a comic about the horrible world of the 90s onto the 2010s doesn't work like that. Also: Murano has a hair color that is completely unique to her in the show. Her hair is tinted red, her eyes are weirdly red too. Unless I'm colorblind and don't know it, the picture you posted totally demonstrates that. While this wouldn't be a huge problem, the show tries pretty hard to give everyone else regular human design, which really greatly contrasts with the main characters. It's an anime thing to do but it's still stupid and poor design. Tamiya is the biggest culprit in this regard because she has purple hair. Little things that add up and create larger narrative problems. They're there. You can't erase them by going "BUT I LIKE IT WEH!!!! YOU'RE BEING TOO CRITICAL!!!" in a thread that is literally about being critical about anime. laplace fucked around with this message at 00:18 on Dec 24, 2014 |

As much as I love Parasyte, it is kind of weird how they bother updating the setting and giving it a shiny new subtitle to distinguish it as a setting update, but then not change the story at all. Either way, it's definitely not in the same category as something like Mahouka or any of the other contenders for the title of this thread.

I can't really argue with you because you're not incorrect, it's just that that stuff doesn't really bother me and to be honest wasn't even something I'd noticed or thought of until you mentioned it. Mobile phones and modern technology have pretty much ruined horror movies and I'm quite happy for the show to pretend they don't exist, though I agree it would have worked much better if they'd just set it in the 90's. And girls having tinted hair doesn't bother me because girls having tinted hair is a thing that happens in real life, it's not like they've got Shiki style hair in a realistic setting. The worst I can honestly say about the Parasyte anime is that it looks a little flat and dull. And I'd say that this thread is less about being critical about anime than is is laughing at actual irredeemable poo poo like Mahouka and that dog girl shoujo one. My actual vote for worst series are Nobanagun, managed to make a show about a girl using a weapon possessed by the spirit of Oda nobunaga to fight aliens boring, Wizard Barristers, should have been less wizards and more barristers also QUALITY and Sakura Trick which I subjectively enjoyed because sadly I am the target audience for girls kissing voyeuristically but was objectively bad. Honourable mentions for Soul Eater Not! for annoying me by constantly going 'these girls have the hots for each other... NOT!' and Kill La Kill for daughter finger rape (a shame since I liked most of the rest if it.)

Not intrinsically, but when you use it as a lazy way to go 'look how evil this character is' it doesn't help. Edit: Actually honestly yes, I think depicting on-screen rape is pretty skeevy and unnecessary no matter what the circumstances are. I don't want to get into detail for fear of (further) creeping up the thread, but are you familiar with the cinematic concept of the 'male gaze'? Basically, KLK uses that throughout its run, and fails to switch it off when the creepy incestuous rape comes along. Visually, this means that it's hard to distinguish from the show's many attempts to get its audience's dicks hard, carrying the uncomfortable implication that this, too, is a form of fanservice. It doesn't help that the male gaze was tied with violence and rape imagery for a great deal of the show (having your heroine room with a family of molesters and strip down into a ludicrously skimpy outfit before getting her rear end kicked by a string of tough opponents contributes to that), though never before was it so explicit.

Mahouka- The most power fantasy, self-insert generic protagonist with an incest subplot to top it off. Nobunaga the Fool-Nonsensical story, badly animated fights, lovely fanservice Nobunagun- When it was about the main character going crazy channeling Nobunaga it was decent, otherwise it was boring and didn't go anywhere. Buddy Complex & Captain Earth- Generic mecha shows, nothing really horrible with them just boring.

To be honest I could forgive the skeeze (mostly because I expect it with Imaishi anyway, though the molestation poo poo was beyond the pale even by his standards), I think the bigger problem with KLK is that it just usually wasn't that exciting and boy howdy did Ryuko suck. How many times did that girl decide to stop fighting and then start again? Also the transformed Kamui commit anime high crime by looking less cool than the untransformed ones and the OST wasn't as good as Panty Stocking's.

I don't watch much bad anime, but there were a couple notable stinkers. Glasslip - The worst show P.A. has made. Well, I haven't seen Canaan, and I heard it wasn't good, but this was worse than RDG, and that was pretty bad. Kill la Kill - Bad touch I don't think any of the others I saw would warrant me recommending avoiding them, so I guess my list is just the two.

In no particular order: Tokyo Ravens: boring, terrible main character, good ending though, would have been better if it was only one season. Tokyo ESP: disappointing adaptation. Log Horizon: horrible talking, politics, talking, booooring, MORE TALKING, nothing happens. Akame ga Kill: hate the main character, boring, not funny or amusing, inexplicable haremshit, terrible quality outside of fight scenes. Sword Art Online: didn't watch this but I hate the first season so very much so gently caress this season, pretty sure it sucked anyways.

Akame no Kill I can't emphasize how horrible the tone is. It rapidly shifts between "WOAH HOLY poo poo GRIMDARK TORTURE RAPE GORE" and "COMPLETELY HI-LARIOUS HAREM CHIBI CUTE MOMENT" to the point you think that there are two different teams constantly fighting over whether they want to make Berserk or Fairy Tale. It simply just makes all the characters seem downright insane at best or the writing completely nonlinear at worst.
