I mean, the director and writers themselves admitted at the AX panel this year that it was all for shits and giggles. No commentary, even when someone brought up the scene it was played off as them trying to get a shocking background detail rather than symbolic of anything.
I want to respond with a good ol' lit theory spiel about how only the story's contents matter for analysis and you can kind of disregard the author, but that actually explains why KLK was such a goddamn mess. So, score 1 for counter-Death-of-the-Author?
