For what it's worth I also hated the first few episodes of Parasyte. It felt kind of lifeless and navel-gazing, and the whole thing with the main girl was weird and pointless. I don't really care about the graphical designs, but all the characters were  personified, especially the ones without aliens eating their brains.If it gets better though I guess I should watch the rest of it. Getting mixed signals on that one though.
