Nah, gotta be the tiger mom. Let's give the black mom a businessman for a son. The darkies love that community business poo poo.

Worst Middle East Cartoon D

It had to be a Kirschen, of course.

Worst Police Brutality Cartoon B

Victim Blaming: The Cartoon. Not even an ounce of subtlety to it, just straight up "it's his fault he got murdered".

Worst Torture Report Cartoon D

A noun, a verb...

Worst The Interview Cartoon A

This one is just really badly put-together on top of everything else.

Worst cartoon about a tragedy G

A fine example of exact-opposite-of-reality.jpg.

Worst caricature C

What the poo poo?

Worst "A Thing Happened" cartoon C

Not only a bad cartoon, but an insignificant event.

Worst Label I

It's no mountain of debt, but pretty close.

Least concealed bigotry in a cartoon H

All of these are so goddamned terrible that I picked almost at random.

Laziest cartoon J

So tired of that drat bumper. Quad-bumber is just too much.

Most easily reinterpreted F

Probably just my brain.

Overall worst political cartoon of the year I

I hate to pick this twice, but Jesus Christ, man. Jesus Christ.

Sure thing. Counting the votes is a lot of work, but thanks to The Crotch and Koishi Komeiji we'll be able to count votes fast and with a bit more detail.

Thanks for your hard work! Something to add a bit of flavor, if it's not extra work: lots of people are posting really good rationales for why they chose the ones they did, you could include particularly articulate explanations from the vote posts which explain why a given comic deserves to be selected above the rests. You'd just have to find someone who voted for the category's winner and gave an explanation, so maybe that would be too much work. But it's a thought, maybe for next year if it would help to plan for it from the start.

Worst Police Brutality

Being the editor also gives him significantly less accountability. A regular cartoonist could, at least in theory, have cartoons turned down for just being angry piles of scribbles with labels. Ramirez on the other hand IS the person who would say "uhhh Mike, this is is completely indecipherable, maybe don't scribble in every single bit of blank space???"

hi how are you

I'm happy with a 2nd place to Ye Fowle Herald, it's consistently funny whereas you might look at mine once, go mildly and temporarily insane and have to wait at least a year for the next instalment.

Good to see Ramirez gets the recognition he deserves for being a creep. Maybe next year he should just be awarded the Ramirez Lifetime Achievement Award in the Field of Being The First Up Against the Wall When the Revolution Comes and be disqualified him from all other categories. He's going to keep sweeping the GAs otherwise.

I'll take pride in nominating the winning Middle East Kirschen, and taking second place in Worst Caricature with a cartoon I put together (and that is now the OP picture for Kirschen in the 2015 thread.:getin:)

Now, onto Ramirez:

Yep, Jurgan called it. I'll borrow a quote from back in November in cartoon thread with the same sentiment that sums it up:

TetsuoTW posted:

Ramirez is a sniper where Lester runs around with a sawn-off shotgun firing toward every snapping twig. Ramirez doesn't always unload with truly offensive poo poo, but when he does he goes for a headshot.
I couldn't say it better myself. (Hence why I'm borrowing the quote.:v:)

Kirschen still wins on Middle East and I/P issues, if only because he's turned the Bleach Bones parody into reality by openly calling for genocide.:stare:

Ramirez really outdid himself this year--he only got a few last year and the rest were fairly well distributed across the usual suspects. Though I guess this year Kirschen and Foden are first-time GA winners so that's new.

Also it's funny that Gorrell has not only won the laziest cartoon GA three years in a row, but every year his winning cartoon is even lazier than the one from the year before. Can he outdo himself again?

At this point either he has to forget to sign his own name, or neglect to submit a cartoon at all but his editors don't notice and print a blank space anyway.

I think that's the key to it; For all Ramirez's ineptitude at polititooning, he has juuuust enough intelligence to be more than a petty bigot. It comes out a bit less often (possibly because he is himself a PoC so day-to-day racism and poo poo will be slightly less appealing, even to him), but when it does come out god drat, better watch out because there's nothing petty about it. The McCoys portray black people as troglodytes and looters, but that's little different from their usual fare and we've frankly grown inured to all but the worst of it - Ramirez put all his effort into a very detailed, Ramirez-train-tier detailed, picture of Michael Brown specifically to blame him for his own death.
