I had to look up the issue and the monster is kind of like Kong Kong crossed with Kilowog. Of course, it comes to life. Turns out it's actually not evil and doesn't even defend itself. But the real plot starts when loving Martians attack out of nowhere and the creature sacrifices itself to defeat them.
