Mike-o posted:I was just about to say that. Heard it on the news a while back, it was at some tourist trap gun range in the desert somewhere that her family decided to drop into when they saw advertisements. Girls all hosed up from it now. Yeah, the "instructor" let a small child handle a full auto Micro UZI and won a Darwin award. Micro UZIs have huge cyclic rates of fire aren't for loving around with by people who haven't been trained. An 8 year old was killed by one at another range back in 2011 too.

Rough Lobster posted:I've known adults who for whatever reason had a hard time taming a full-sized 9mm pistol. What fuckhead would put any kid let alone his own in that position? Age 13 with a single shot .22 rifle is probably the youngest I'd take someone shooting. It really boggles the mind. I used to fairly regularly let people shoot my MGs at the range, and can't fathom why someone would think a Micro UZI is appropriate for a kid. Small children are much better off firing crew served weapons

Kung Fu Fist gently caress posted:look at this unwieldy hunk of poo poo, good luck firing in the prone with it. just more weight to suffer the squad bitch with Best part is that this is the 6 round mag pictured. There's a ten round mag. That iirc can be fired off in 2 seconds. SHOT show used to be for sporting and hunting but in the last decade there's a huge amount of military products there, to the point that there's now a dedicated Military / LE section that's about 20% of the floor space, not counting the manufacturers that are set up in the general areas like HK, FN, Colt, Knights, Aimpoint, LMT, Kalashnikov and IMI etc. Lots and lots of dod purchasers, guys representing various commands, foreign military and recent vets this year The great part was all the "service dogs" many of whom we bedazzled with dozens of Velcro morale patches.

The Aimpoint pro is popular because it is an inexpensive Aimpoint. My issue with it is batteries - they aren't ubiquitous at all and granted changing your batteries once a year isn't a big deal, but for me i'd prefer something with AA which can be found anywhere, or the CR2032, with CR123 a distant third. Ignoring cost, Aimpoint Micro T2 for small size /weight followed by Comp M4s if that's not a problem. If cost is a factor, Trijicon MRO is getting good reviews. I'm not a fan of the Vortex stuff as it's just not rugged. There's tons of people using it with no complaints, and if this is just a range toy that's fine, but I don't want to worry about my optics not working if I drop the rifle.
