I will do my best, this is literally my entire recollection from the last two seasons, I think my subconscious has suppressed the rest: - Finn died, and it was sad and actually a really good tribute. - Pretty much everyone worth watching went to New York - The Glee club at school was disbanded? - Mercedes started dating Sam, then broke up with him because he wasn't black and that was bad for her image. I feel like maybe they got back together at some point, but now I'm not sure? - Rachel got her dream role in her first Broadway audition - Rachel decides to go into TV instead - Rachel is moving to LA - Blaine is fitter than Kurt - Adam Lambert owns

Literally the only thing of any importance that I've heard about for the past two seasons is Unique saying "PLOT TWIST: LIMA DOESN'T HAVE A ZOO, WHY DID WE THINK IT DID???"

Mercedes wanted to stay a virgin and Sam was hilariously okay with that. Kurt and Blaine had all kinds of idiotic inconsistent drama. Santana moved to New York and sadly didn't replace Rachel in Funny Girl. Artie was weird and Tina was unbearable.

I honestly don't remember much beyond Finn died, there was a school shooting, Blaine is obnoxious, I hate him and Kurt together and there was an episode involving dogs.

I suffered through all of Glee so far, so here's a crappy recap of Season 4 and 5. Season 4 -Rachel gets a hot new boyfriend, Brody who also goes to NYADDA. - Rachel immediately gets her instructor, Kate Hudson offside and they antagonise one another. - Finn is missing the first few episodes. He joined the army and after an embarressing accident, gets discharged. 'Ashamed' he went off the grid for a while. - After graduation, the new generation of Glee kids arrive. Unique, the transgender former star of Vocal Adrenaline transfers over and speaks in soundbites "MmmmmHmmm girlfriend!". Marley, a overly-sweet brunette girl from a poor family, with an eating disorder and morbidly obese mother. Jake Puckerman, Puck's half-brother who is a dancer and a bit of a sleaze. Ryder, cleancut white kid who won 'The Glee Project' and has dyslexia. Kitty, a bitchy blonde cheerleader who isn't very interesting and helps perpetuate Marley's eating disorder. - After slumming around Lima after getting rejected from NYADA, Kurt gets a job with Sarah Jessica Parker working at Vogue.com. - Missing Kurt who is now in NY, Blaine cheats on Kurt. They break up. - Will Shue (THE WORST) goes to Washington to help on an arts panel of some sort for a few months. Finn takes over running the Glee Club for a while. Finn does a good job. - Santana turns back up to Lima and tells Britney it's over cause she's in college now and can't deal with a long distance relationship. - The Glee club does Grease and it's not very interesting. - Led by Finn, Nude Erections go to Sectionals against the Warblers and lose. This is because they perform Gangnam Style about 12 months after it was popular. And exhausted from her eaeting disorder, Marley collapses on stage. - With Glee Club over, Sue predictably cuts the program. I think it's revealed that Will has squandered hundreds of thousands of dollars they had on all their stupid performances instead of using it for actual competitions. The club disbands. (FOREVER??!) - Back in NY, Kurt goes to Rachel's NYADA performance and asks for another chance from Whoopi Goldberg. On the night of the show, Whoopi calls Kurt up to sing. Kurt gets into NYADA. This school has some really bizzare admission processes. - Burt surprises Kurt in NY with two things. Burt's prostate cancer diagnosis and Blaine. - After losing to the Warblers at Sectionals, Blaine and Sam do some snooping and discover the Warblers are using steroids or performance enhancing drugs? I don't know how steriods would help you sing better? They reform the Glee Club. AGAIN. UGH. - Kurt meets a guy named Adam who has a lame glee club at NYADA called 'Adam's Apples.' Thankfully Adam disappears after like 3 episodes, never to be mentioned again. - There's a boring love story between Jake, Marley and Ryder. Jake's a dick? Ryder is nice? No-one really cares. - At Lima, the boys decide to fundraise money through a sexy calendar? (Yeah, because people want to hang 'sexy' pictures of teenage boys on their walls. UGH.) Sue did a Penthouse shoot back in the day? - Tina gets to sing that Madonna song which samples ABBA. - Finn kisses Emma in a terrible scene. Let's never talk about this again. - Santana turns back up to Lima and bitches out Sam for dating Britney. Santana drops out of College and sings/teleports over to NY to live with Kurt and Rachel. - Will returns for his wedding to Emma. She dumps him at the altar. After the ceremony, Kurt and Blaine reconcile with sex. Santana and Quinn have sex. Artie and another girl in a wheelchair have sex. Finn then tells Rachel they're destined to be together. (CREEPY AND CONTROLLING) -Finn tells Will he kissed Emma and they sing NSYNC songs to argue because no-one can talk without a song on this show. -Back in NY, Santana is a terrible person and an even worse housemate. She snoops through Brody's stuff and discovered Brody was being a male escort to pay for his tutition through NYADA and basic living expenses. Rachel, being a total cow (who has EVERYTHING PAID FOR HER) chucks him out and dumps him (Ok). Finn then appears from Lima and bashes Brody and makes claim to Rachel in a really creepy fashion. We never hear from Brody again. - Ryder starts chatting with a girl online. To save you the trouble, it's Unique, even though the show claims it isn't. Ryder is also mildly transphobic and offends Unique. But, you know, Ryder is a white teenage boy in middle-'Murica who doesn't know better. - There's a school shooting at McKinnley and it's really poorly handled and a very awful episode. Turns out Becky accidentally unleashed two shots for whatever reason and Sue takes the fall for her but is only sacked. -Bieste starts a relationship with another football coach. Yay, Bieste. -Finn goes to Uni to become a teacher. Puck is there too. They do the harlem shake and join a frat. Will and Finn make up. - Rachel auditions for 'Funny Girl' and sings 'Don't Stop Believing' and the ghosts of the original Glee Club performance give backup. - Ryder reveals he was sexually molested by a teenage babysitter at 11 and is still upset by it. Kitty also reveals her brother's older friend molested her too. They sing. - Santana somehow applies for NYADA and gets in as well? First they're so selective and then they'll take anyone. - Kitty and Artie have been dating? - Artie gets into NY Film School. - Tina gets into some boring Uni and is treated like crap. - Burt is okay and no longer has cancer. - Rachel gets the 'Funny Girl' lead role. Kate Hudson's a real bitch but it's okay since she was only trying to help motivate Rachel! They're now friends! - Mercedes resurfaces from LA and a failed record deal. She didn't like them trying to change her image. - Britney is suddently spirited off to MIT because turns out she's really a Math Genius? I call bullshit. - After discovering Unique has been catfishing him, Ryder says he'll leave New Directions after regionals. - SUGAR (and the boring Hippy) reappear!!! God I missed Sugar. - The Nude Erections win Regionals. Whatever. - Will and Emma get married? Who even knows. Blaine plans to propose to Kurt (Way to steal focus, Blaine.) And there was a ton of other awful awful crap I fast-forwarded through. I'll do Season 5 later.

The most important thing that happened over the past couple seasons is that the Glee universe entered some sort of alternate dimension where time passed very slowly. Alternately, everyone graduated from the S4 school year in, like, August, and got advance copies of Lady Gaga and Katy Perry songs so as to perform them in Glee-time several months before they were released in Actual Time.

Ugh, so - Becky admits to firing the gun. Sue is reinstated. Sue then plants incriminating porn etc in Figgin's office. Sue becomes Principal. Figgins becomes Janitor. this is not how life works. - Blaine proposes to Kurt. Because getting married in High School is a good idea, gay or not. - Tina becomes Prom Queen with Stoner Brett. She then gets a bucket of red slushie thrown on her. The show could've improved by making her Carrie at this point. - Demi Levato plays Dani, a casual girlfriend for Santana in NY. She also disappears into the ether. - Kurt quits Vogue.Com (WHY?) and so he, Rachel and Santana inexplicably start working as waiters/waitresses at some singing diner. Like seeing the same people 24/7 is healthy. - There is a Finn tribute episode. It's pretty well done. Apart from the glaring absence of mentioning how he died. - Kurt decides to start a cover band with Adam Lambert, Rachel, Demi Levato and Santana. You can probably nap whenever they start mentioning this band. - There is an episode dedicated to Twerking. Yeah. A timeless classic, right there. - Unique is told she can't use the girl's bathroom by another random bitchy cheerleader, Bree. Unique gets access to the teacher bathroom when Sue makes Will agrees to stop twerking. - Kurt gets a lovely tattoo and a lovely tongue stud. - Jake Marley drama and he cheats on her or something. Whatever. - Sam decides he wants to become a model and meets Tyra Banks or "Bitchette." - There is a gas leak and everyone hallucinates puppets and sing "What Does the Fox Say?" God this is getting worse. - There's some completely illogical 'retro' Christmas special in there as well. Kurt hooks up with sexy guy who is dressed as Santa who robs the NY trio. - Rachel's got the lead role in 'Funny Girl' and tells NYADA to get hosed. Because burning THAT bridge won't come back to haunt you, girl. Oh and Santana temporarily becomes Rachel's understudy as well because BROADWAAAYYYYYY. Rachel becomes more insufferable than ever. - Emma is pregnant to Will. Really Emma, just leave him. Will is more invested in the lives of 15 year old kids than you. - Because Mercedes just won Dancing with the Stars, Ryan Murphy realises she's popular and stuffs her back in the show. Mercedes apparently gets a record deal with Sony. - At Nationals, the New Directions sing a medley of Finn's favourite songs and get 2nd place. They put a little Finn plaque up in the school. - Because Glee came 2nd in a NATIONAL competition, apparently it's now CANCELLED FOREVER by Sue. (Why it can't return next year is beyond me.). - Quinn returns and dumps a lovely boyfriend. She then hooks up with Puck. Obviously you're limited to dating/sex with people you went to school with. - Gwenny Paltrow returns with April Rhodes and sing a lot. - Brittany says she wants to date Santana again. Eh? This makes Santana quit being an understudy to Rachel. - Sue and Holly Holiday audition for the Amazing Race and it's a hilarious little sideways second. - Tina gets a head injury and imagines herself living in NY. Tina's reality is more interesting than the show. - Artie, Becky, Blane, Brittany, Sam and Tina graduate. Kitty, Ryder, Jake, Unique and Marley are all cast off and ignored. THERE IS NO SUGAR!? WHY IS SUGAR NOT THERE?! The show now becomes ALL NEW YAWK ALL THE TIME. - Rachel's just doing 'Funny Girl', Sam's slacking, Kurt & Blaine are doing NYADA, Artie is at Film School, Mercedes is creating music and Santana or something? - Kurt gets 'gay bashed.' Someone else dies as well. - Sam and Mercedes date but Mercedes is a virgin. Sam's 'okay' with this but then cheats on her. - Artie gets the clap and has to tell girls they may have an STD. - Blaine eats food and thinks he's not as fit at Kurt and it's very boring. - Rachel auditions for a Tv show, putting her BROADWAY career at risk. She burns that bridge too. Because it's not like you need a career for the rest of your life when you're 20. - Kurt dresses up as Peter Pan and flies around a nursing home. Who knows why. - Rachel tries to help a dog charity, but she's exposed as a selfish bitch. - Santana stars in a yeast infection commerrcial. - Rachel leaves the show she's been talking about for 5 seasons after like 4 weeks of actual performing for a 'Development Deal' with Fox which sounds awful. Christ Rachel, you're the loving worst. - Kurt and Blaine agree to date but they need their own space. - Sam leaves for Lima because the big city lights are really hard on his big eyes. - Mercedes and Santana go and tour together? - The season mercifully ends. Thank GOD this poo poo only goes for 12 more episodes. Mind you, the spoilers for Season 6 sound positively AWFUL. Andrew_1985 fucked around with this message at 08:43 on Jan 4, 2015 |

Andrew, thanks for the recaps. I lost interest in the show after season 3, mainly because Mercedes wasn't in it anymore and she was my fave singer. Have to admit, some of those plotlines sound mildly interesting. The first episode was amazing and was heavily hyped up by Fox and widely available before its official premiere. The first season hit a lot of the same notes but there was a big tonal shift after episode 13. I don't know if it was a decision on the part of Ryan Murphy, Fox, or whoever, but the show lost a lot of its edge and darkness and started to take on the qualities of the sort of "yay high school" show it started off as more of a send-up of. There were also a lot less musical numbers in the first season. As the show did more and more songs, it seemed to spend less and less time on actual character development.

Most people at least agree that the pilot was outstanding, the first 13 episodes were good to great, and it was varying degrees of all downhill from there. The back half of season 1 is mostly okay but not as tight as the first half, season 2 is shaky but still okay in parts, season 3 has some of the worst and dumbest loving moments of the entire series, etc.

Are the early seasons worth watching before it all goes to poo poo? The first 13 episodes very much are. Past that, the thing about Glee is that it's a very up and down show - almost none of the episodes are just mediocre. When Glee is good, it's really, really good. But when it's bad, it's horrible. Even the later seasons of Glee (at least as far as I watched, so pre-S5) had a few "up" episodes, but they just get drowned out by all of the abysmal ones. That combined with the fact that Glee isn't good at keeping track of its own continuity means that Glee got very frustrating to watch because even good plot developments would quickly be forgotten. And every time you saw an episode so bad that you swore it was your last, the next episode would be amazing and it'd draw you right back in for another infuriating month of garbage.

Two episodes on this is pretty funny so yeah I guess I'll see these thirteen episodes and then leave it be. Jane Lynch is fuckin' great so I don't want to see what horrible crap they do to her. As it goes on I suppose the gentle comedy turns to Serious Drama like a bad web-comic and it goes horribly wrong? edit; I like that little piano riff they play in episode two, it sounds like a song instrumental but I don't know which. The problem with Jane Lynch's character is that they tried to make her the same antagonist for the same effective reasons for five straight seasons. It had already worn incredibly thin by the 2nd season. (Also the show jumps clean up its own rear end with 'message' episodes from like season 2 onward.)
