talk about short animes here. the ones that aren't 20 minutes or are only a single episode.

examples of short shows:

Military!
I haven't seen this, but its short and airing now and apparently on crunchyroll
http://www.crunchyroll.com/military

I can't understand what my husband is saying
This aired last season, it was okayish. husband and wife and 2chan jokes. there is in fact a thread for it
http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3673579&userid=0&perpage=40&pagenumber=1

Pupipo!
this aired a while back, i don't know if it had a thread but I actually watched it and its good. from the author of HI-score girl. worth a watch

Airura
mostly notable because of the op that features steve jobs and crabs. its short, it was mildly okay
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4dZFVJhtJE0

Teekyu
probably one of the dumbest shows i've seen. i remember the first season being good and the rest being meh. there's going to be another one in the future

Plastic Nee-san
screenshots from this get posted in random threads all the time, you might think it was an ova but it was in fact a short episode anime. its on youtube in its entirety

http://animatorexpo.com/
happening right now, animator shorts from studio khara (maybe others too? i don't know). featuring such controversial clips as the me!me!me! one. new clip every week. there was an evangelion one, but it didn't have too much to it

Yamishibai: Japanese Ghost Stories
this aired last season i think. its simple folk tales. you can watch it on crunchyroll. might have had a thread, but you can talk about it here if you want
http://www.crunchyroll.com/yamishibai-japanese-ghost-stories

Anime mirai
yearly collections of shorts. I can recommend death billiards which is getting adapted to a full show this season and little witch academia. do not under any circumstances watch the other 2013 ones. they're longer then 3 minutes but they're single episode things so i thought i should include them here

if you know other shows airing in the future, airing now or cool ones from the past post them here since this is a pretty limited list.

Yama no Susume: Encouragement of Climb's first season was pretty educational and laid-back. The second season has longer episodes of which I only watched the first one and it didn't hook me.

and please watch teekyuu and ai mai mi, fantastic and hilarious shows

i forgot about seki-kun, i still read the manga so i never was too interested in watching something i've already read. its good though. i thought encouragement of climb was a long show so i didn't put it in there. i know it has its own thread though. the faces in ai mai mi look silly dumb

Loving chairs more every day!

Tonari no Seki-kun is fabulous, and everyone should follow the manga too. Roboto family :allears:

As for last fall:
Orenchi no Furo Jijo/Circumstances in my Bathtub
http://www.crunchyroll.com/orenchi-no-furo-jijo

It's about a highschooler with a merman in his bathtub. The merman has some seacreature-men friends.
For the most part, it's silly moe-ish anime, that veers almost into shounen-ai territory. Unfortunately, it has some parts that get creepy with his sister, and the fact that this is a highschool kid.

BONJOUR♪Sweet Love Patisserie
http://www.crunchyroll.com/bonjoursweet-love-patisserie

It's a reverse-harem short form anime set in a Confectionary Academy, where the main character is a student on a scholarship, the harem consists of ~ikemen~ instructors, and student-instructor relationships are STRICTLY FORBIDDEN. Based on an upcoming mobile otome game.
I think this is actually pretty goddamn cute, and the girl's sidekick best friend is cool. It doesn't really do anything all that new with the storyline, but the clothing design and palette are good, and I just think it's charming.

Encouragement of Climb, which has it's own thread here
http://www.crunchyroll.com/encouragement-of-climb
http://www.crunchyroll.com/encouragement-of-climb-season-2

Girl afraid of heights gets dragged into climbing mountains by childhood friend. Each episode is something like, 3 minutes, so getting through the first season takes just a little over an hour.
I haven't actually finished all of it yet, but what I've seen is cute and I recommend it.
edit: whoops, already mentioned above. And the second season episodes are about 14m each.

Poyopoyo

Turning Girls is a super cool thing made by the office staff at Trigger, and is about a group of lady dorks about to turn thirty. It's full of hilarious angst and worth watching the whole way through, but episode 2 and 5 particularly own, and it does have something of a conclusion in episode 6.

That link is to the playlist on youtube, and you can turn on English captions with that little [cc] button on the videos.

Oh, and speaking of Trigger and youtube, INFERNO COP is also the best.

Astro Fighter Sunred is about 12 minutes long per episode. Sometimes there are actually pretty good recipes for noodles and simple bachelor style dishes as well. It's kind of like One Punch Man. It's not as good but that's kind of what it's like.

Kick Heart is by Yuasa, the guy who made Ping Pong. It's a short one shot animation.

Lmao Beavis and Butthead crack me the gently caress up. So good of show.

The best short anime are : Yama no Susume, Tuning Girls, Inferno Cop and Seki-kun.

Best one that hasn't been mentined before:
Boku no Imouto wa Osaka Okan : Probably the only good anime with the word Imouto in the title.

oh
oooooooh!

Anyway, Makoto Shinkai has two cool shorts that coincidentally can be found on the same DVD
First is Voices of a Distant Star, a story of love and distance (and battles with aliens) that he produced entirely by himself, launching his career as a director.

Can be streamed at crunchyroll
It's super good and he crams more into 30 minutes than a lot of shows ever manage to do.

Next is She and Her Cat, which is a 5 minute piece he did about a lady and her cat (from the point of view of the cat)

I don't believe it's streaming anywhere, and the only version on youtube I can find is a fandub so I'm linking to this site that hopefully isn't too scary.

This is really good. Even though I've seen it many times over, it always manages to bring me to tears.

Another of my favourites is Ohayo a short about getting up in the morning, one of Satoshi Kon's last creations.
