Really from my point of view the best I can hope for is ~9. That would be pretty good. Stuart has cleared out a lot of the poo poo and has brought in some decent talent despite that lolworthy period where he missed out on a stack of high profile signings in a row. I think croker will be a good captain and I hope wighton gets first crack at fullback.

Gorbash posted:Trip report from Seiffert Oval in beautiful downtown Queanbeyan: based on this it's going to be a long season for the Raiders. Croker went off after 90 seconds or so and didn't return, after a heavy tackle, but they looked uninsipring at best in all facets of the game. Knights fans will be pleased to know that the cutout to Uate still works wonders - I think he picked up three that way. Its going to take a long time for the raiders spine to gel. Like even if the ceiling is not very good it will take 10 rounds or so to get there. Still I think the side is better this year than last. Its just not very strong praise.

Probably about as good a side as the raiders could name. Gonna be a rough start to the season. Also a rough middle and end to the season.

That was a nervy game. Like, the Raiders aren't going to be winning any premierships this year but I reckon as the spine starts to gel the side will be ok ??? Maybe. There have been so many false dawns as a Raiders supporter.

I know this is damning with faint praise but Hodgson is potentially the best Raiders buy in like decades. EDIT Potentially I should say. His knee might explode or something in a minute.

There is a lot we can say about Stuart. He is a dickhead, a jerk, a whinger, a clown but the thing I hate most is him sticking with having the outside backs rush up. STOP DOING IT STICK.

Pretty happy with that. Absolutely awful start to the second half aside. Obviously there is an issue clicking in attack hence why we are so poor in the twenty but Cornish and Austin have played like 2 games together. I have to question how Stuart is using McCrone but besides that he has it mostly right at the moment.

Brisbane are probably comparable to the Dallas cowboys. Big market side, think they should be winning by virtue of existing. Pretty successful but haven't quite been able to do it of late. Fans think they are the most important side in the comp.

Stick poo poo the bed with this one imo. He pulled all our best players off the field and gave the Dragons back the ascendency. No wonder the Raiders can't get fans at the game. Its just depressing

There are a few players who are bad or not very good. See a player like Fensom gets wraps because he scores big in fantasy football but he also gives away so many penalties that his good is being outweighed by his bad.

The raiders entire spine next year which is shaping up as pretty good (wighton, Austin, sezer, hodgson) is likely on less coin than what the titans are paying DCE. If this coaching thing doesn't work out for Stuart the raiders should keep him in some kind of head of football Phil Gould like position. He has been great at recruiting. Edit Of course until rd 13 goes past I'll hold off on celebrating. Wouldn't be the first player to use signing to another club as a bargaining tool with his current one. Heck Josh papalii did the same thing. Burn Down Canberra fucked around with this message at 00:58 on Apr 10, 2015 |

Hodgson was a very clever piece of business so far. The thing with Stuart is that he is proactive and ambitious. He might be a poor coach but he dreams big and tries for it. The last two long term coaches of the Raiders were Furner who was extremely reactive. He was just banking on a bunch of juniors who were all nutters working out. His best signing Ferguson literally fell into his lap. That might have even been under Neil Henry (who was alright as a coach he had some good ideas but has failed since Canberra) Matt Elliot had no ambition. He would make signings that were designed to have the Raiders finish somewhere between 7-12 every year and that was good enough. IIRC his best ever year with the Raiders 2003 he played Jason Bulgarelli over Phil Graham for some reason which eventually cost us the most important Raiders game since like 1994 against the Warriors.
