Crosspost from old thread: Don't forget about RSS feeds (even though the rest of the world has). By using My Yahoo! or another feed reader, you can see the updates from all your favorite shows. Unless they're on YouTube, which stopped doing RSS.

http://chezapocalypse.com/feed/
http://atopthefourthwall.com/feed/
http://blip.tv/needsmoregay/rss
http://phelous.com/feed/
http://blip.tv/brows-held-high/rss
http://feeds.feedburner.com/SpoonyExperiment
http://blip.tv/mikejtv/rss
http://www.ashens.com/rss

Doing this eliminates the need for a portal hub site or search site to act as a collection of links. Which is why RSS is bad for business and Google is trying to make it disappear.

Mr.Radar posted:

Linkara's Patreon has been hovering around its currently level for quite a while, I don't think the recent drama has affected it at all. I think the difference is down to Brad's show having a wider appeal (movies are much more accessible than comic books) and Brad having a higher overall output.

Brad's site isn't just him; he has a whole crew of friends helping him. Linkara's just one guy. So it makes sense that more people can generate more interest.

Sweet, apparently all CA producers have individual RSS feeds, so you can enjoy their content without having to go there to check! Just click on his or her name, go to that producer's user page, and add "/feed" to the end of the URL.

IIRC, Mythbusters is made by an Austrian production company and Discovery. Any drama that happens there is just typical of the TV entertainment biz.

CA is different because the weird poo poo that happens there would probably not happen in a real professional TV environment. At least the latter has entertainment industry lawyers prepared specifically to handle such litigation, and it happens all the time. CA know that no one's ever going to have the money to sue, or lawyers and judges who even understand this online stuff.

Any of you who want to use RSS feeds to get video updates on YouTube might have noticed that the feeds stopped working a couple weeks ago. YouTube has changed its URL for RSS feeds again, and since they're hidden (because RSS would mean you'd be watching someone else's ads for updates).

To get the URL, go to the channel you want to follow and view the page soure. Look for the word "channel_id" and copy the gibberish after the "=". Ex: channel_id=UC0M0rxSz3IF0CsSour1iWmw. Then put it into this URL where the XXXXs are.

I'm loving the AT4W Movie, and I'm proud to have sponsored it. It's better than its prequel, and I'm impressed by the drama in it. Also impressed with the demonstration that it's possible to have an Indiegogo, use raised funds responsibly, and bring the production to its conclusion within a very reasonable amount of time. Holy gently caress you people are insane.

TVs are not going to die, people love having a big rear end screen to look at and they're cheap as hell now. No one wants to watch movies on a loving laptop/tablet screen.

Like, what the gently caress?

TVs and digital displays and projectors have been converging ever since the need for a tuner and speakers began waning. I have my TV plugged into my PC as a second monitor, and I had a hard time explaining that to my sister over the phone one day. She didn't quite grasp that you could do that. Average joes won't put that level of effort into their TV; they just want it to turn on and work.

But it's the easy content delivery that most people want from TV. They need a set top box or easy cable box interface to help them choose what to watch and set channels and schedules for them. In 1998 Steve Jobs said "You go to your TV when you want to turn your brain off. You go to your computer when you want to turn your brain on. Those are not the same." I say he's still right; His later interest in Apple TV doesn't contradict that, it proves it.

People come home from work and they want to just relax. They don't want to gently caress around with searching, typing, or any kind of thinking about what to watch. They want it as easy possible. My PC-as-TC setup, doing everything from Windows, is pretty much a nightmare for anyone. Explaining it to my elderly parents when they visit means I have to actually write down the steps to turn on the PC, it speakers, the monitors, etc... normal folks can't handle this! Turning on a computer and its stuff? SO HARD!

That's why I'm here reading this thread in the first place. I have no trouble with looking for what I want when I want it or using RSS feeds to make lists of updated stuff I want to see without relying on a lovely portal site like Channel Awesome or YouTube crappy promoted video recommendations. I like being in control and being active with what I watch. But I can see how that could tire some people.

They’re still going to be around, they’re still going to have a lot of value, but they’re going to be used by one out of x people." I think he's right about that too. We'll always need trucks to do the tough work and tough play, even if most folks are OK with a Civic. :iiaca:
