The weird thing with Rich and Jack is that they're weirdly inconsistent. After their Bloodborne review, they got suggested La-Mulana pretty often by folks on the stream, but when Jack got it, he complained about things they praised about Bloodborne, like the nature of the exploration, the no overarching goal, that sort of thing. It's just weird.

Yes, you're right, La-Mulana is better than Bloodborne.

Uh, he's stated and shown through his work that his list of influences is pretty much just a list repeating Hunter S Thompson in various increasing font sizes. Complaining that he's trying too hard to be gonzo is a very weird complaint to make. I don't know anything about his past, particularly though so idk where you were going with that.

Even more than that, he makes pretty constant references to everything from Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts to Metal Gear. Plus, for all the joking in the AE86 review, he's made mention of loving Initial D before and afterwards.

The stuff with DXHR gels pretty well with the stuff from the original DX design documents, at least for the treatment of augs. Having them start out as consumer products is all well and good, but (as it looks like DXMD is going to cover) public opinion turns around pretty quick, and you end up with augs being ostracized and treated as second class citizens at best, and by the time DX rolls around, it's an outdated technology only military folks use because of how people feel about it. Hell, p-augs were made just so you could get 'good enough' supersoldiers without the public image problem.

cat doter posted:those tumblr idiots confusing cooking mexican food for cultural appropriation just shows you that they heard the term once, assumed what it meant without researching what it actually means, and took it up as a cause because performative social justice is more important to them than actually being helpful and correct The thing is though, and I think what Choc was talking about when he started it, is that 'taking ownership' of various cultural things is how cultures have grown and developed. It's just it used to be done through conquering, and then the two cultures intermingled and became something new, and then that just repeats over and over. It's probably best seen through food, and tracking various styles, ingredients, and techniques throughout history is pretty interesting.

Oh, yeah, no, I don't support the conquering thing, it's just a rather common thing in history is all. But yeah, getting upset that cultures are intertwining and forming something new and different is weird.

Puppy Time posted:By most accounts, Liefeld is super nice and great to work with, and IIRC churns out work super quickly, which is a combo that more than makes up for his terrible artwork. Basically most companies hire on a basis of "Cool to be around, Works quickly, Makes quality art- choose two." Liefeld is notoriously slow and misses deadlines like nobody's business though. Bob Layton actually refused to leave Liefeld's house when they were working on the Deathmate crossover because he wouldn't get off his rear end and do the art he was supposed to. So he just did a sit-in until he finally did it. And that sort of thing was common for Liefeld, he's notorious for lateness.

Nintendo does poo poo like that because they know there is no realistic way they can possibly gently caress up hard enough that they wreck the brand as "THE video game company". They can do whatever they want however they want as much as they want to and won't make a dent in the public consciousness until well after their entire executive staff are in the ground. Hell, we're only barely getting out of calling playing video games "playing nintendo" by the older crowd. Plus, with the glut of childhood nostalgia for the company, they could make something that burns down houses and electrifies kids and they'd still have faithfuls defending it.
