Yeah, anywhere you go you are guaranteed to see at least the government's "Don't drink and drive" campaign in some form, usually as roadside billboards or a Booze Bus (roadside alcohol/drug test).

Infamous Sphere posted:That's a specifically Australian preoccupation? I suppose here you're far less likely to die from gun violence, although to get a drivers license here it seems like teenagers have to jump through more hoops than they do in the states. I was watching an American TV show (The Fosters, if you're wondering) and a 16 year old character took his 15 year old sibling for a driving lesson. Here, you can't even be on your provisional license until you reach 16 and nine months - before that it's a learners, and you have to be in the car with someone with a full license. And there's at least three years of provisional license, sometimes with a whole lot of other conditions - while you're on provisional you can't supervise a learner driver, and in some states you can't drive above a certain speed limit and you have to have a blood alcohol level of 0. Teenage binge drinking is a thing, and they have cars. Do the math on that one.

The next-episode preview for the last episode is for the very first one .

It would have made an absolute shirtload of sense, considering that there's a pretty big surf lifesaving culture here and a far higher percentage of the population lives on the coast as compared to the US. I vaguely recall there was supposed to be an Australian version at some point but it fell through before it got anywhere near pre-production.

nine-gear crow posted:The miniseries was good, season 1 was great, season 2 was AMAZING, and then everything that followed was the writers desperately flailing about to try and salvage the show after the big cleaver twist they ended the second season on wound up breaking it irreparably. Yeah, the first two seasons are fantastic and well worth watching, but after that the wheels fall off and send the show right off a cliff. The only real bad thing you can say about them is the Pegasus' CIC is a really cheap and tiny set compared to the "outdated" Galactica's. Granted it's apparently salvaged from a failed Lost in Space pilot, but still. Something I loved with the show was they actually had a large set of regular extras instead of just Tech Guy C for bit moments too. If you see some guy working on or flying Vipers in the background, chances are you'll consistently see him there a few times.

It's absolutely not a front for fascism, but it's interesting that if you go look at any of the backstory stuff it is a military dictatorship government. Even the Spartans were originally developed to stop all the various colony worlds going independent before the Covenant started glassing them one-by-one and suddenly the UNSC was the lesser of two evils for everybody.

Ironically enough the human population being completely decimated was actually in their favor, seeing as the colonies would have to stay, otherwise they won't have the means to survive. Nah, the Spartans were always PR'ed as heroes of humanity rather than getting a chance to be the terrifying anti-insurgency supersoldiers they were designed to be. They'd barely gotten to being ready for full-scale deployment when the Covenant rocked up and started ruining everyone's day.

Jsor posted:Kojima is a writer where you're almost never exactly sure whether you're giving him too much or not enough credit. I'll grant him that he usually has a point to his stories, and when they fall apart at least they fall apart in interesting ways which is more than you can say for a hell of a lot of games. I think somewhere there's an alternative universe where he became a filmmaker and alternate universe Kyle is reviewing his films. The problem is you could write the same concept with a tanktop and shorts, rather than torn stockings and a thong. Quiet as a character otherwise is not bad at all, but all the idle animations in her cell at Mother Base and in the ACC are very clearly fanservice-focussed.
