You guys are seriously overestimating the degree to which background checks are conducted. It would be considered stringent if they went back and interviewed friends of Paige's, much less take a hard look at her parents.

It's a nice contrast to Elizabeth, who doesn't seem to associate with anyone, even her daughter, without having an ulterior motive.
