Marxists are red. New Labour is blue. Farage is purple. And we are all screwed. --- The party is over. January has flittered by, and now we're now having the hangover of the year, but what a party that was; Paris was under siege, Birmingham declared a caliphate, and Gideon got his cock out and drank his own piss. We're in the last 100 days or so before the next election, so February promises more political rhetoric, soundbites and other assorted as they clamour for votes. Also snow, so expect the usual "snowmageddon" coverage. Oh, yeah, and the crassly commercialised Valentine's Day is coming up as well, I guess, if you can stomach it. Copying this from the January thread: So... PIP appeals process. How does that all work out, then? Despite being iller than she's ever been my wife didn't qualify after being on DLA no problem for years. Pretty high chance of winning appeals, isn't there? Edit: the scores they've given her bear no relation to the things she actually said in the interview, it's like things have been recorded incorrectly

Anarchy in the UKMT as February thread starts on Jan 31st. Dates now meaningless as everything goes. Cats marry dogs, babies have babies, space and time condense into a singularity, Boris Johnson ascends to godhood on a stream of his own jizz. This never would have happened if you'd waited 10 more hours, you madman. (Or we could just carry on chatting as if nothing has changed and it doesn't matter.)

An update for you all about the financial drama that hit my household last month. Things are stabilised a little, and thank christ I have an interview or two lined up in the next week or two. However my housemate's woes continue. Barnet council in their infinite wisdom have decided to deny the existence of Belgium and claim that he has no legal right to reside in this country, despite being an EU citizen, working here for years and even working for the police at one point. Various legal advisors have been contacted, as well as the Belgian embassy.

it's going to happen regardless - the US/Canada are pushing ahead with telecommuting therapists, partly due to traveling distances and/or hostile weather, so Unison is picking a poor line of defense by arguing that it is fundamentally impossible. rather, the plan will almost certainly be to triage cases into telecommutable/non-telecommutable, with local staff to start off (staff who are not in London are lower wage than staff who are, after all), then transitioning to contract outsourcing. Unison can make more hay on the triaging process (every patient lobby group considers their own conditions an especial snowflake) and on the outsourcing bit in general, rather than arguing against telecommuted therapy even when it is becoming more available in other parts of the anglosphere. You may as well wave a buggy whip.

thehustler posted:Copying this from the January thread: I don't know the details of how it is done, but yes, as I understand it PIP is basically running on the same system as other benefits began to under the auspices of Atos: Deny almost everything first time around without any regard to what was said, and actually do a proper look at things only on appeal. Filters out people who accept the initial ruling for one reason or another, and probably saves some money on people who die between their initial application and coming to review the appeal. So yes, appeal, talk to CAB for advice, or direction to legal aid if you think that's necessary (doesn't sound like it would be in your case, but they helped my own DLA appeal go through smoothly a couple of years ago).

I'd be interested in the evidence base for remote 'talking therapies'. You miss out on a huge amount of non-verbals if you're talking via Skype and it seems like a talking therapy is the exact situation you'd probably want to able to see someone's non-verbals.
