Developer: Slightly Mad Studios Release Date: March 17, 2015 Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Wii U I made a thread way back in October of 2011 for this game, and over 50 of you also signed up to be apart of the alpha/beta testing. Project CARS is finally very close to being finished with a set in stone release date now of March 14, 2015. This sim went from only a handful of cars and tracks, with the tracks not even being anything more then just road with literally no landscape around it, to being a very beautiful looking racing sim. The driving model has also become amazing and is very realistic. You'll get a few iRacing or rFactor dorks that think it's literally Mario Kart, but they stick to their one game only and so they don't really care or matter. Important details: 32 car grids, day/night and weather cycles, huge single player with different racing leagues. There will be DLC cars, I don't know about tracks though. The PlayStation 4 version is 1080p and 60FPS while being a special effect setting or two lower (shadows and reflections don't look as good and you'll only notice it if you are looking for it and doing side by side comparisons) then PC ultra settings. Slightly Mad Studio's has achieved some real amazing technical magic here in order to make that work I am a senior member on the PC beta test, so I can try to answer any questions about the game. I get access to weekly builds and will have the PS4 version once it launches. Nerdrock posted:Wow. I just looked in my gmail for my receipt for buying in to the beta, and tomorrow it will have been 3 years ago. February 7, 2102. This sim has gone through such an evolution it's shocking. It'll only be a matter of time before I break down and buy it on both PS4 and PC. What's your membership status? I don't think you'll have to pay money for one of the platforms. At the very least you get a nice discount.

I've got an old logitech wheel and if it doesn't work on the PS4 version that's gonna be pretty loving stupid. Might as well get the PC version if that's the case. Yeah get the PC version. I don't understand the 3rd party controller situation on PS4. :/ One of the things Sony took a huge step backwards on.

This Youtube channel has been doing gameplay videos of the PS4 version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=user?TeamVVV?videos They got special access to that version of the game. I asked Ian Bell if I could have the PS4 beta but he ignored me. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6l-vpULIXuQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ac1nph_eLX4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UdGOzm-cuus https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VaMkw8S7vDE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mOPxwmXl7yY Their videos are a little obnoxious, it looks like they have to have certain content in it when showing off the PS4 version. There are hundreds of videos of the PC version out there too. Also, this video is the intro to the game: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qgkyJtUw4F8

I really don't see a delay happening. Being able to first hand look at all of the features and actually be able to play the game right now, it is rock solid and ready to go.

pvax posted:Please tell me this feels nothing like Shift 1 or 2 and I'm sold. I've kept this off my radar solely based on how little trust I had in SMS since the recent games kinda felt like poo poo to actually play after I got so hyped up over the selection of tracks etc. I tend to be a controller player and the weird input lag/smoothing thing they had was just too drat annoying. I promise you this is nothing like Shift. This is the game that SMS really wanted to make, and now that they are on their own they were able to do that.

Linux Nazi posted:Is there going to be any kind of single-player career path like the GT games? Or is it more of a Sim sandbox thing like AC? There are a whole bunch of different racing series, and you pick the one you want to race in. Right now in the beta build you can pick any racing series you want right from the start, but I think there is going to be a progression system in there by release. I am not entirely sure, i've barely touched the single player other then time trials.

Whoops, delayed again, new release date is April 2nd. This game is literally the Gran Turismo of next-gen racing games. I don't understand the delay though. As someone who gets to play it right now, there is nothing wrong with PCARS. I said come in! fucked around with this message at 19:48 on Feb 18, 2015 |

Okay so new information came out this morning. There's been a change of plans for people who helped kickstart PCARS. Choice of platform is no longer an option, everyone gets either a Steam discount or the PC version for free. Sucks for me because my PC can't play PCARS very well. I wanted the PS4 version. I guess i'm gonna own two copies.

Mr SoupTeeth posted:Righteous, much obliged. I can't take a peek until I'm off work. As petty as it sounds, the seeming inability to get smooth gameplay with high end hardware has probably turned me off to the game more than the lack of content. My computer is a piece of poo poo, I only have a GTX 460. So if I turn off any aliasing effects, and turn off post-processing effects I can get 60fps at 1080p. AC still looks nice too. I just raced on the ring and it was pretty sweet.

I last played back in February, and that build was rock solid. It can't be licensing issues at this point can it? Maybe I should load the game up again and see where its at, but I really do think its ready to go.

Anime_Otaku posted:I'm on Xbone so I've not played in any beta tests, for those that have how forgiving is the game, if it's like Forza I'll go for it but if there's really strict gating like some of the Gran Tourismo licences I'll most likely give it a miss. You'll enjoy Project CARS! The physics model is realistic, but even with a gamepad the game is comfortable and easy to play. The career mode is a series of calender events where you can pick which type of racing you want to do. You don't have to start with Go-Karts for example, if you want to jump into Le-Mans prototype race cars or F1 cars you can absolutely do that right from the start.

Project CARS is how I want racing sims to be now. I don't think I can tolerate Gran Turismo or Forza anymore. Their systems are archaic to me. That probably still won't stop me from buying Gran Turismo 7 though. :/

ethanol posted:What, because they don't have full race weekend simulation? Having played project cars now, it's really good but it doesn't give me dozens of cars to buy including my real life car. Presumably making the simulation so realistic didn't leave much time or money for car recreation and licensing Forza and GT aren't a draw for me anymore. I found that I just stuck to a handful of cars and grinding money to buy everything just wasn't a good use of my time. I don't have the patience or time anymore for that sort of game. PCARs has a great car list that fulfills everyone's favorite type of racing.
