Majora Mask is awesome, though I'm having some trouble with a lot of the side quests/events. For example, I thought I was doing great with the missing husband-to-be quest; I established where he was, that he was wearing a mask, and double confirmed it by following the postman when he dropped off the letter for him. "Ah HA!" I thought. "Now that I know 100% for sure that this is the missing guy, I'll finally be able to accost him and finish this quest!" Motherfucker turned around and went back inside his shop without a glance in my direction even though I was trying to stab him with my sword out of frustration. Guess I'll ask around town some more and then what I need to do to complete the quest should be obvious. [Edit: just looked up spoilers. Goddamn it this is the ONE TIME I didn't actively try to get into someone's house in a Zelda game. Sigh.] Wind Waker is still my fav 3D Zelda but Majora's Mask is quite good. More games should try out a Groundhog Day style mechanic. asecondduck fucked around with this message at 08:55 on Feb 15, 2015 |

I think I will start with Link Between Worlds, I have heard that the 3d is great in it and didn't want to play on the old 3ds because of the never ending attempts to find the sweet spot. I did play a little monster hunter and wasn't a fan of the stiffness of the nub, is that just something you need to get used?

Man every store in town is sold out and I'm missing out. I don't buy too many new toys, how long can I expect to wait before they reappear on the shelves? Should I just order online?

Talking out my rear end here, but maybe thick rims are enough to throw off the tracking by creating a second object for it to track. On the face-tracking note, I wonder if it's possible for games to make use of it. It'd be neat to have it actually rotate the image properly instead of merely re-angle it.

Possible, though my frames aren't exactly thick, they aren't exactly thin either. In the super-stable 3d setup, it seems to get tripped up if I cover my eyes. Lenses could potentially do that if it's a strong prescription. All guessing though.

It's an amazing game. I'm terrible at it but I can't help but smile when I'm in that wonderful land of giant monsters and cute kitties. You should really check out a beginner's guide to the series. There's more stuff to learn than what could be reasonably posted in a thread post, but that's not to say it's overwhelming or anything. You just need a good introduction to the various menus and shop/vendor options, the controls (4U does good showing you the ropes here,) and most importantly, how to properly prepare for whatever type of quest you're about to set out on.

I think it's a frame-and-lens thing, I get rather better results if I wear my old frameless glasses as opposed to my current red ones, but it works perfectly if I have no glasses on at all.

In the interest of maintaining my habit of buying non-pc stuff a generation late to save money, I just upgraded from my OoT3D Edition 3DS to the NES Edition 3DSXL. poo poo's cash. Also much more comfortable to hold. Speakers suck rear end tho. Sometime this year I'll pick up a WiiU and a PS3...

Japanese claw machine game where you get stickers by playing. Those stickers can then be applied to your home menu however you want. We don't get it because are tough, hardcore, and love guns too much to deal with stickers.

One thing that does suck about the New 3DS is how easy it is to nudge the power button. Its old placement mean you'd never really hit it on accident, but I just managed to nudge it after getting to the boss door of Great Bay Temple.

I managed to nudge my game card out of the slot twice already. I'm so used to curling my long, spindly fingers back around to the bottom there that it's gonna be an adjustment for me! Note that the New 3DS XL also has much better speakers than the old 3DS XL, which is a good thing but nintendo didn't advertise it. Also note that the face tracking 3d isn't very good when you're lying down i.e. when your face may be deformed or obscured or some poo poo. You can swap it off in the settings menu. Also also for everyone bemoaning that they didn't get the LoZ N3ds, the plain red one is much, much nicer looking anyways. It is seriously a good colour and is mondo shiny and excellent all around. System transfers take about half an hour.

I downloaded the Monster Hunter 4 demo a few weeks ago when one of the goons posted the code in the previous thread, but didn't try it out until I got my New 3DS XL. I actually enjoyed that demo a lot, which is surprising since I have one of the PSP Monster Hunters from PS+ that I didn't care for and briefly had the Wii game that I didn't care for either. Is it worth actually getting the new one and anything noteworthly missing from the demo (besides more gameplay and customization)?

I bought mine at Toys R Us. However, when I went at 11:30 on the launch day, they mentioned they had already sold a few and had something like 10 left, so I get the impression they were selling out everywhere! I've known a few of those drug mart stores such as Shoppers to sell Nintendo stuff, so you could maybe take a peek there.

My closest Wal-Mart said they were out but when I went to the actual store they had four. Call or if you live in a place where everything is relatively close to each other just do a sweep through all the usual places that carry systems.

In discussions about video games I've learned to just assume everyone is so broke they're practically homeless. We could be talking a difference of close to six months of panhandling or allowance payments before being able to afford the difference between a new and old 3DS XL.

I'm really impressed with MM3D. It feels contemporary - funny that it comes out a week after "Life is Strange," which is a great game but which is largely built on mechanics that MM3D pioneered ~15 years before. I never played the original and was concerned that - like "the Ocarina of time" - it wouldn't remotely hold up to fans' memories. I do think that the Ocarina of Time is a legitimately Not Great, bordering on Bad game that nostalgia completely blinds people to. I've bought it three times (Gamecube bonus disc with Wind Waker, Wii VC, and then 3D remake) because I wanted to believe that it was as good as people say it is. On the other hand, MM3d is actually probably the best Zelda game I've played to date, just a brilliantly designed thing. [Full disclosure - I started with the original LOZ in '86 or whenever].

Majora's Mask 3D also improves on the original quite a bit with lots of little changes that are mostly for the better. A lot more info is tracked in the Notebook (which it frankly needed), and Tatl's a little more helpful with reminders that might get forgotten without being obtuse about them to the extent of N64 Navi (for example, a one-off reminder to go revive the Great Fairy in Clock Town a second time once you get the curse broken, because she promised a second reward). Tatl can get a little annoying during the first cycle with reminders on where to go next, but I can kinda understand why it's there to help new players get through it, and it stops once you're in the game proper.
