Just watched They Look Like People, it's streaming on Amazon (not free). I've seen it described as a more horror oriented Take Shelter and I can see the parallels. It's very low budget, but so goddamn tense, after the movie was over my legs were shaking a little bit.

More of a thriller than horror, but just watched Hush on Netflix. Enjoyed it.

Just watched He Never Died. Great movie. Rollins was awesome. Also watched The Big Short earlier today and really enjoyed it. Carrell and Bale were incredible. Really liked the 4th wall breaking stuff.

fishtobaskets posted:I'm glad someone else noticed and appreciated this. It's a breathtaking piece of acting. It's got to be difficult to act in shock because it's such a visceral, involuntary human condition. I guess I have to watch A Hijacking now. That was one of my favorite parts of the movie. You almost never get to see the aftermath of something like that, and when you do it's never that human.

Slandible posted:I went through all of the new Black Mirror today. Last two were alright, but the first four were very good. San Junipero episode really stood out as the best. Yea, San Junipero loving wrecked me. So good, and really liked the change in tone from most of the other Black Mirror stuff.

At least check out the San Junipero or whatever it's called episode. It's very different.

It transitioned from something good enough to bear with, to embarrassing at that point. I mainly agree with you on everything here, except I still really like Bill Burr.

Been watching Bosch lately. Not sure why I decided to start it, but it's pretty decent. About halfway through the second season and I like that the stakes are getting higher. What's the general concensus on it? Because I don't ever remember anyone talking about it. Also, mini The Wire reunion is cool.

Looking forward to season 2... there will be another, right? We went through the same show progression also, all good stuff.

precision posted:Goliath does the same thing as Bosch, where everyone inexplicably wants to gently caress the main character, but in Goliath Billy Bob is down to literal junkie levels of skinny and goofy looking and he plays it off like "Why in the world are you attracted to me?" Part of what makes the show so good is that he's clearly having such a goofy time with it, like William Hurt is taking his role super seriously and the tone of the plot is often really dark but Billy sounds like he's not even acting, just being his own goofy drat self. I didn't really get the impression anyone really wanted to bang Billy Bob or Bosch, except for the season love interest.

precision posted:I can think of three women who want to bang Billy Bob in the first 4 episodes alone - the one he does bang, his hooker secretary, and his ex-wife, one of whom even literally has a short monologue about how irresistable he is. Okay I'll give you Goliath, it's been a little while since I watched it. But yea, the few Bosch sex scenes were like late night USA poo poo.

precision posted:If you want a great crime type show, Sneaky Pete on Amazon is utterly fantastic. Bryan Cranston and David Shore created (Graham Yost is also involved). Cranston is the villain and a great one, and Margo Martindale is terrific as a somewhat different spin on her type of character from Justified. Really, it's so good I liked Sneaky Pete, but it took like 4 episodes for it to grab me. I think it was Giovanni Ribisi, something about his mannerisms or something was off putting to me, couldn't quite put my finger on it.

Is some of the dialogue and acting in Mindhunter being so awkward and wooden an intentional thing or is it just what it is on the face?

tweet my meat posted:I was watching Role Models on HBO's streaming catalogue and it holds up remarkably well which most things I liked in high school don't. It's one of those movies where half the stuff in the first half sets up a callback in the second half and it all comes together in a really fun way near the end that winds up being exciting hilarious and heartwarming. I agree, this is a good movie. Another Paul Rudd comedy from around that time I think really holds up is I Love You, Man.

It meanders and is slow as hell, but the relationship of Rudd and Segal (who was a favorite of mine from Freaks and Geeks) felt real. Filthy Hans posted:Goliath s2 is a huge drop in quality from s1. The core cast is still good, and Billy Bob is still great, but the writing even for the core is weak stuff. All the other new characters are paper-thin and the plot turns are as implausible as you'd expect from the throwaway second season of a prestige show that should have been one-and-done. I actually kind of liked the 2nd season, the characters were utterly ridiculous and I just rolled with it. Episode 7 was amazing though.

Just checked out The Endless. As mentioned before its for rent on Amazon, not on Prime. That was one of the best indie type supernatural/horror movies I've seen in a long time, really liked it. If anyone wants to check it out, I highly recommend watching Resolution first, for reasons I can't say (though I also liked that one too so check it out anyway).

veni veni veni posted:I forgot about Resolution. I really dug that movie. I was going to rent The Endless a couple of weeks ago but was kind of put off at the director/lead's ego overkill about how visionary they are combined with how cheap it looked. But I'll give it a shot since resolution was pretty rad. I felt The Endless definitely looked a lot better. I didn't realize that about the directors, but I feel like the work isn't pretentious so I think that's all I care about, honestly.
