Just watched They Look Like People, it's streaming on Amazon (not free). I've seen it described as a more horror oriented Take Shelter and I can see the parallels. It's very low budget, but so goddamn tense, after the movie was over my legs were shaking a little bit.

I'm glad someone else noticed and appreciated this. It's a breathtaking piece of acting. It's got to be difficult to act in shock because it's such a visceral, involuntary human condition. I guess I have to watch A Hijacking now.

That was one of my favorite parts of the movie. You almost never get to see the aftermath of something like that, and when you do it's never that human.

I didn't laugh once, but made it til the part in the "nine 11 truthers" bit where he was playing the character of the main truther before I turned it off. It transitioned from something good enough to bear with, to embarrassing at that point.

I don't know if it's that my favorite stand up comedians are getting older and aren't funny anymore, or that my sense of humor has changed enough that stand up just no longer works for me, but I have not found a single comedy special that actually makes me laugh in over a year. I used to love stand up too, but these days every big comedian I watch just seems so tired and unwarrantedly self indulgent.

I mainly agree with you on everything here, except I still really like Bill Burr.

Been watching Bosch lately. Not sure why I decided to start it, but it's pretty decent. About halfway through the second season and I like that the stakes are getting higher. What's the general concensus on it? Because I don't ever remember anyone talking about it.

Also, mini The Wire reunion is cool.

I finished Goliath last night and really dug it all. While I didn't care much for the Patti character at first, she really grew on me and the actress really nailed the role. Looking forward to season 2... there will be another, right?

With this one and Patriot Amazon is really starting to compete with Netflix for good original content.

Working my way through Bosch season 1 now.

We went through the same show progression also, all good stuff.

Goliath does the same thing as Bosch, where everyone inexplicably wants to gently caress the main character, but in Goliath Billy Bob is down to literal junkie levels of skinny and goofy looking and he plays it off like "Why in the world are you attracted to me?" Part of what makes the show so good is that he's clearly having such a goofy time with it, like William Hurt is taking his role super seriously and the tone of the plot is often really dark but Billy sounds like he's not even acting, just being his own goofy drat self.

I didn't really get the impression anyone really wanted to bang Billy Bob or Bosch, except for the season love interest.

I can think of three women who want to bang Billy Bob in the first 4 episodes alone - the one he does bang, his hooker secretary, and his ex-wife, one of whom even literally has a short monologue about how irresistable he is.

With Bosch I guess it's less that a lot of girls wanted to bang him and more that every scene of him banging was filmed like an embarrasing softcore skinemax porn

Okay I'll give you Goliath, it's been a little while since I watched it.

I liked Sneaky Pete, but it took like 4 episodes for it to grab me. I think it was Giovanni Ribisi, something about his mannerisms or something was off putting to me, couldn't quite put my finger on it.

I really liked it. Really well made with some spooky rear end parts. It does commit the cardinal sin of showing the monster a lot at the end, but it is interesting and creepy enough that it doesn't really ruin anything, although I think it minimized the horror to some small degree. The seams showed a little too much on the CGI a few times.

The part in the corpse church at the end gave me the heebie jeebies more than anything I can think of in a recent movie

Overall I think it's one of the must watch Netflix produced movies, along with Wheelman. Overall just a solid horror flick that was crazier than I was expecting it to be.

Just watched this too. As the movie went on wife and I kept yelling at the TV to please not show the monster too much, which I agree they kinda did at the end, but is was pretty well designed so it definitely made it not so bad. Solid horror movie.

Oh poo poo yeah I meant the hair guy. Tan is indeed the coolest one aside from the food guy.

Yeah but the episode I was talking about, the gay guy, it came off very strongly that they were trying to steer him in a "more lifestyle gay" direction; like I said, especially where he says he doesn't want to wear "feminine" clothing and they assume that he's saying that because he doesn't want to signify that he's gay, and that's problematic on at least three levels. They weren't just cleaning that guy up, they were giving him a specifically queer-coded image and telling him "this is who you are".

But didn't the food guy also say something to the effect that his sexuality didn't define him and that was cool too? I kinda binge watched it today so it's all muddled.

There's a few jokes that haven't aged too well, but overall it's still as good now as I remembered it.

Goliath s2 is a huge drop in quality from s1. The core cast is still good, and Billy Bob is still great, but the writing even for the core is weak stuff. All the other new characters are paper-thin and the plot turns are as implausible as you'd expect from the throwaway second season of a prestige show that should have been one-and-done.

The only saving grace is that the seventh episode is completely bugfuck crazy. It's like an episode from a different and superior show broadcast on a different and superior planet in a different and superior universe. Seriously, if you want a good time go into s2e7 blind, it doesn't matter if you watched the first season or not. Don't bother with episode 8, it's as lovely as the first 6.
