A routine murder investigation is complicated when the prime suspect's own body is discovered in an advanced state of decay, despite him being in police custody. It eventually transpires that the suspect had been previously murdered by the victim, who then created an approximately 90% accurate replica of the suspect from publicly accessible surveillance data in order to cover his tracks; the replica eventually noticed the inconsistencies in its own memories and behaviour, and sought revenge. The judge rules that any notion of the continuity of the self is illusory and thus that murder is ill defined.
