I was thinking today, the typical response when a team might be for sale (like the Titans atm) is to joke about them moving. But all three of the owners in the LA train wreck have owned their teams for a while now, especially if you count the Davises as a single family

To paraphrase the deadspin response to this, those taxes aren't being raised for that purpose. They could be going to other stuff. It would be possible to raise hospitality taxes and improve schools or roads or housing for poor people

Absolutely. It's so bizarre. I grew up between the two when they were rather different cities, and the first time I encountered the Portland hate of Seattle I was so bewildered.

Based on my limited sample size, Philadelphia seems to have a similar little brother thing towards New York, with a similar lack of attention going the other way.

But none of them say Frisco, that's a city in Texas. They say The City because it's how you distinguish it from the umpteen other jurisdictions in the Bay Area. This usage confuses the hell out of New Yorkers, too, especially the lifers who barely consider anything outside the five boroughs civilized much less a city.

i mean philadelphia is like the fifth largest city in the US though
