Imagine, instead of having to replace a $350+ watch (or $1000+ if you bought the gold watch) every 2-3 years you'd just take it into an Apple Store and they'd replace the chip with the current gen spec (S2, S3, etc). Have you ever seen an iPhone older than 2-3 years? Those things get trashed, scratches, chips, cracks galore. If you think that Apple build quality is going to be significantly higher than an iPhone I don't even know. ' Dear lord, Apple Watch cases...
