Btw, asking why was because I really don't know. Makes sense though for typical ship. But the LCS is insanely maneuverable as you said. It can turn inside is own radius and can walk itself sideways, can stop itself in about 1.5 lengths of the ship, etc. My buddy told me there is video of the LCS doing crazy maneuvers during sea trials (uploaded by Austal). Also interesting is the fact that they use autopilot a lot underway. If they wanted to they could autopilot all the way out to open water but they aren't quite that comfortable with it yet (although they are getting there).

Anacortes gets you a little away from the base but not closer to anything else. Hope you like driving an hour to get anywhere that isn't Whidbey Island.

That being said, Port Townsend is neat and just a ferry ride away

Stay with a friend? I guess if your a E-5 that could be an option. We have nice dorms at Corry but very little to do on base compared to Pensacola.

E-5 and above stay at the Gateway Inn next to NATTC iirc

Everyone who brought their laptops connected to it and we could play games with each other.

There was a wifi file server in one of the staterooms directly above my berthing that was packed to the gills with porn

Dunno if you've seen the "4 Reasons I Am Resigning My Commission As A Naval Officer" article that's been making the rounds. http://taskandpurpose.com/4-reasons-i-am-resigning-my-commission-as-a-naval-officer/

The online response by senior (meaning mostly terminal O4s and O5s) has been "How dare she complain and criticize without recommending solutions! Priviliged millennial!" Which speaks volumes for itself. The fact that the institution doesn't tolerate any criticism or legitimate complaint basically dooms itself to continue to make the same mistakes over and over again.

I was 30 when I got out. I'm 32 now. In a year I'll have a BS in electrical engineering, paid for in full by the American taxpayer.

You're an ET who usually scores in the 70s, which means you probably remember at least 10% of whatever basic circuits poo poo you learned in A-school. As a former AT who scored similarly, it's made my experience pretty smooth.

Have you considered getting out and using your GI Bill for a degree in engineering?

This is a good point. If you want a degree in CS, milk TA and take some maths at the community college (I think they offer up to Calc II at the SVC campus in Oak Harbor) and whatever programming courses you can get and use that to knock out core deficiencies for a MS.
