I know that the next 911 Carrera and Carrera S are going to be turbos, but have there been any rumors how long Porsche is going to hold out making at least some of their cars NA? Any word on MY2017, 2018?

So it looks like Matt Farah likes the 718 S.

and then I listened the six cylinder again.

Is Edmunds fair for valuing cars? I'm thinking of doing something really stupid:

http://www.panjo.com/buy/2014-cayman-s-certified-11k-miles-highly-optioned-210755?index=15

Edmunds says it's worth about 15k-20k less than asking.

I'm finding it tough to price this. Perfect options, but the mileage is quite high. What would be a decent price on this?

edit: Although it seems silly to get a 5 year old, 70k car for 50k when a new M2 is the same price.

That said, you live in a place where it almost never rains? That top is kind of a drag to operate, even if you get it down to a minute.

Haha, I live in Wisconsin. The only reason I'm considering it is because I live close to work, could take the bus if really needed, girlfriend is buying a V90, and I'm moving next year. Sounds like closer to 40k would be a better price. Reasonable?

The alternative is waiting to next year when more Cayman GTSes come off lease.

We're at 43k. Should I do it, pending PPI, or is 55k miles really a shitton for a car like this? The Spyder really hits me in the right places. The alternative is waiting (like I probably should) and getting a recent Cayman S/GTS next spring, which would probably be better as a daily driver.

So are Caymans too, when you think about it. They have more trunk space than my E46 does! Also, they're great in the winter too apparently; not just because of the drivetrain layout, but apparently all the rear bodywork on the Cayman is stainless steel, so no rusting either!

Why yes, I am trying to justify a 987 Cayman S as a daily driver, why do you ask?

Do it. There's a 981 S on Rennlist I'm eyeing that comes with a set of winter tires but I have zero free weekends until the end of October. By that time I might as well wait for spring.

I went back and forth with that guy so many times back when he had it listed for 55k, then 50k, then 48k, then 45k. I actually spoke to someone else who test drove it who said it could definitely use a suspension refresh, which raises the price by a few grand. Not sure if 42k for that car with 56k miles is a good deal or not.

I have been toying with this:

http://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-...431663552&Log=0

Which is the same car except with significantly fewer miles. If I could get that for 50k I'd do it.

I'm essentially debating between:

1. Cayman S/GTS with a warranty for 60kish to use as an all year car (with winter tires)
2. Buying a Boxster Spyder without a warranty + my current GTI as a winter car

Part of me thinks it'd be nice to have a warranty for my first Porsche, but the other part of me really likes that 987.2 Spyder. There's also the issue that I have zero free weekends between now and October 22nd and winter is coming.

PASM seems like it makes a car retain its value big time, I guess something like that you would have to drive a lot to notice the difference between stock and PASM and if its worth it, and I don't see how to get that experience.

I have a Cayman S with PASM/PSE/Sports Chrono, and PSE is the one that makes me giggle every time I hit the button. I bet it sounds even better with the top down. Above all else, get PSE.

Test drove a '09 Cayman S with a 6-speed Manual.

I didn't have too much trouble rev-matching up and down the gears, but one thing that made me slightly worried was the shortness of the throw/travel and the lack of response of engagement of the stick shift.
I'm currently daily driving a VW GTi and it has an almost identical shifter knob, so I was pretty comfortable with the ergonomics, but when I throw my car into gear, I know it's in gear 100%
The Cayman was such a short throw that I was constantly worried I was going to put it halfway in gear and chew the transmission up.

I'm glad I took the manual out for a spin though, made me 100% certain will want to pick up the PDK transmission.

I'm confused by this. I went from a 6-speed GTI to a 6-speed cayman and had no trouble getting in the car and shifting. I think it's also ruined me for any other manual transmission.

Hi guys,

Wanted to ask a couple questions to Boxter s owners if there are any in this thread.

Basically:

-Out of the cars I was looking at which are Boxter s, bmw m4 and the corvette stingray, the boxter seems to have a perfect blend of fun and convenience. My last car was a Honda s2000 and I really enjoyed having a convertible that can also be a daily driver. How do you feel about the practicality of the car after using it for a while? For reference I am single, no kids no pets.

-How is the maintenance and reliability? I read a lot of horror stories about BMW's and usually good things about Porsche and the Porsche service in North America but would love to hear from you guys.

-What is your yearly maintenance cost like?

Thanks so much in advance guys.

I have a 2015 Cayman S, but some of this should apply. Also single, no kids, no pets.

1. It's practical-ish. I have no issues going to the grocery store or for some light shopping, but there are some things that I could easily do in my old GTI but that just aren't possible with the Cayman. Transporting skis? Sorry. A larger box/package? Also tough. Be ready to rent a Zipcar/etc occasionally. To be honest, the biggest thing that I miss about driving the GTI is just how invisible it was compared to the Cayman. I'm not a super flashy guy, and the attention gets a bit old, especially compared to a GTI. I've caught myself wishing that I just had a beater sometimes.

2. I've only had it for a year, but the 2 year service is coming up. The dealer wants $600 for an oil change, air filters, and brake flush, and that's after I called around. Ouch. Otherwise I've had no problems, but this is a nearly new car.

Anyone have experience winter-driving a 996? I want to get something I can count on in virtually all conditions but realistically will probably be driven in actual snow maybe 2-3 times a year. I've seen some C4S's in my area that are somewhat affordable and I like the idea of whipping around a 911 in inclement weather. Mostly because I drive my 964 less and less and still want the "911 experience" 12 months a year if I can manage. From what I've seen, the AWD system isn't that great for slippery conditions, and the 997 version is pretty much universally better, but those cars are still a tad too expensive for my taste. Besides that there's the whole thing of getting dedicated wheels and tires, which I don't mind doing, but at that point maybe a RWD Carrera would be fine. I just don't trust it though since there's some gnarly hills in my area and I just KNOW the day will come where there's a light dusting and not having AWD will keep me from going up the hill.

I daily drove a 981 this past winter in Wisconsin with dedicated winter tires. No issues at all, even with some snow on the ground.
