This guy has the intelligence of a wilted cabbage...
Hello all,

I own/run a network of approximately 20 Linux and NetBSD machines across 3 racks, with 4 VLANs. The switches are a combination of Foundry and Cisco. My main router is a Cisco 2611 with an NM-1E, a WIC-1ADSL, and a WIC-1DSU-T1. Connectivity is via a T1/DS1 and a 3.5m/896k ADSL line, each from its own unique provider. Equipment photos are at https://www.flickr.com/photos/79405270@N03/sets

I would like to replace the 2611 with something that meets the following criteria (expansion cards are fine):

* 4-6 gigabit-capable Ethernet interfaces
* Mounts in standard 19" rack
* ADSL2+ capable DSL modem interface
* CSU/DSU interface for T1
* Native IPv6 support
* Operating system with capabilities comparable to Cisco IOS (especially CLI support)

I haven't been able to figure out what the most direct replacement would be for the old 2611. 2901 seems nice, but I'm not sure.
It would be nice to be able to save a bit by buying used.

Any recommendations?

Thanks in advance.

Just wear the fucking mask, Bob

I don't care how many people I probably infected with COVID-19 while refusing to wear a mask, my comfort is far more important than the health and safety of everyone around me!

I don't have a suggestion but I like your old workstation pics. Cool stuff.

Is that a VAXstation I spy (Alpha A1-A4)? Awesome.

Edit: your place looks fun as hell. Anyways I guess the only real limitation of the 2611 is the fact that the builtin ports aren't gigabit? A 2901 would solve that problem for you, dunno about WIC/NM compatibility though.

yeah, 2901 would be fine as long as you can get the appropriate WIC's. Only one I'd be worried about would be the DSL one, the rest seems pretty standard.

What on earth are you doing with Sun pizzaboxes in 2015 :confused:

e: this appears to be all in a shed in your back yard, what is any of it for?
