In good/bad news, Sentai picked the show up for physical and digital releases in the US.

Horrid news; their dubs are unmitigated bum and that limits the value add to any given release.

I'm not sure what benefit a dub could bring over Takeo's Japanese VA but the idea of say...a sub only release straight up missing lines isn't appealing. Sentai also managed to pick up CROWDS and just not include the ending? lol

I didn't really pay attention to home releases when it was airing, but I thought Sentai only got trigger happy on licenses (e.g. announcing before a show finishes) more recently than that. Also doesn't help that they released after the JP box and in the same format. But yeah it's not an issue most shows would run into.

I can relate to Ai and so didn't bother to fault her. Like her introduction went way better than you'd expect in a romance, because she quickly stopped being a (serious) love rival and wasn't trying to sabotage things. Basically acting like the adult she is and not being twisted into a dramatic trope either.

e: oh my god the scene in the park, Yamato and Ai comparing notes :3:

There really needs to be fanart of Takeo in a Big Dogs shirt. Then Yamato trying to wear the same shirt.

i really hope Takeo keeps the Bro Cafe Machos job
this was such a good episode for faces, and the cute birthday planning/shopping. kinda hope the series skips forward enough that the baby actually appears, but the stuff with Takeo and Suna's families was really funny and heartwarming respectively

I'm pretty sure macho cafes exist in Japan as a counterpoint to maid cafes, but I can't remember where I read that

there was a recent article about a muscle cafe or whatever, but it was limited time only. there are definitely cafes with male hosts for gay customers though. kinda felt like Bro Cafe overlapped the two.

a link re the macho cafe, though i thought there was one featured this month on ANN as well: http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/interest/2015-04-04/spend-easter-at-a-macho-cafe-in-tokyo/.86718

I suppose I'll see them in the manga once the show finishes then.

isn't the whole point of the show that there's no bullshit shoujo drama? like i understand if people are trying to fit it into that mold but they're wrong.

The drama of the show is how long can Takeo be oblivious to how much yamato wants the d befoee she just grabs him and shoves her tongue down his throat.

is it drama, or just what makes Yamato relatable

Oda seems like a good guy underneath the whole kinda stalky/manipulative thing (read: typical shoujo love interest). I mean his bedtime chat with Takeo was really emotional and sympathetic.

e: the episode really delivered visually again. i especially loved Oda's usa flag hair.

oda/ai would be fine with me. better than him conveniently disappearing or showing up again as ai's stalker.

dogsicle
Oct 23, 2012

the hypnosis story is enough evidence that Ai and Oda know each other beyond her helping him. it doesn't excuse his lack of respect for boundaries, but he's not doing this to a stranger. the selfless aspects to his motivation also have me seeing him more as a first-time offender rather than an active manipulator. i really don't think this show will take a dark turn, even if it's just a subplot.

...Really? Cause to me it looked like he hosed around for half a day and ruined an expensive trip for the rest of the group. Easily the worst two episodes of the series. Takeo was hella ooc ("Takeo, Yamato is missing!!!" "It's ok, lets go on these rides") and Oda straight up said he wanted onee-chan to confess so that she could get over him and he would have a shot with her. I was kind of hoping this series wouldn't have any shoujo logic.

i felt like the show made him reasonably sympathetic and showed he wasn't entirely selfish. he obviously has some issues with boundaries and ends justifying means, but neither of those make me hate him and it's entirely likely they're mistakes he'll learn from. i also dont think he really ruined the trip.

e: i mean i'm not going to die on a hill for Oda, but the dude isn't a bad person and i thought the episode cleared up the worries people had about him. he's good enough.

Yeah, Yukika is creepy as gently caress but I'm pretty sure she's going to redeem herself.

One thing that struck me is that she edges close to being the hyper-feminine stereotype playing off Takeo's hyper-masculine stereotype. She's someone that Suna would have to take care of in the same way he takes care of Takeo, but there would most likely be 10,000% less unstoppable saran wrap lust.

Less lust? Yukika fantasized about taking pics of Suna in the bath lol
