Apologies if I missed recent discussion of it, but is Crimson Spires any good? I saw it mentioned that it's one of the rare visual novels where the main character isn't a total doormat, and that's always a plus for me.....also, one of the romance routes is with another lady. :3

Yeah, as long as the story is fairly compelling, $10 seems fair to me, even if it's only a couple of hours long. I just think of it as buying a movie ticket or something.

I found it enjoyable but there is one major caveat that will annoy some people - the mystery is never really resolved. No, not even in the special unlockable NG+ ending. So if you're fine with weird stuff happening and then leaving it open for the players to try and put together the clues to build your own story of WHAT DID IT ALL MEAN, then you're good.

Had to spoiler it because some would rather not know it, though I know that makes things if you don't know whether you should look or not!

Ah, your spoiler actually WOULD put me off a bit. Good to know; I'll wait until it's at a slightly deeper discount than the current 30%. :)

- I like the whole social media aspect. Haven't seen that in a VN before. Basically, you can read, post and reply on the in-game Twitter Phater even as you and your fellow contestants are trapped in a life-or-death situation. And the rest of them do it too. The little bit of this I've experienced is already good but this has incredible potential. The world's first shitposting simulator.

This reminds me, there was a VN that came out in Japan back in like 2013 or something for the Vita, and it never made its way over here even though I would have KILLED for it. I guess they didn't think it was worth it to localize. The name escapes me, but it was basically about calling people out and exposing them for making poo poo up to get Twitter clout.

Does anyone know what I'm talking about? This is gonna drive me nuts.

Edit: NET HIGH! That was it. I wish that had come out here in the US.

I got Yu-no on PS4 while it's on sale. Anything I should know before going in?

(I don't mean content warnings or anything, unless you feel they're noteworthy. I just don't know if the game play includes any odd stuff like the "sending texts to pick your route" in Steins;gate.)

Thanks, all! I may check out the original first, we will see. I'm not in any rush to play either version, as I'm still on case 3 of Great Ace Attorney 1. I just figured I'd snag Yu-no while it was on sale, as my backlog of visual novels has dropped to like, three once I finish GAA.

I also have Punch Line, which I remember getting on sale for like $8, but I heard it's...not great? (Like even beyond the conceit of trying to look at panties so the world doesn't end or whatever it is).

I felt this in Episode 1 and a bit in 2, but she grew on me (and became a bit more complex) later on.

I've seen people really talk up Clannad, but I can't get over all the character portraits looking like "Big Mouth, but anime". Does the Steam version let you change the art like the Steam versions of Higurashi do (or if not, is the game truly good enough to deal with the ugly art)?

:yeah: Note that one of the draws is you choose how thorough you are in your investigation. Just booted up the game? Find a couple pieces of evidence after fifteen minutes? You can start the trial. Spend 30+ hours and collect every single item? You can start the trial.

Which is both great and sad because I want more and playing the ost on repeat doesn't magically make more songs pop out!

YES, the OST is loving FANTASTIC. And the best part is, it's customizable with a playlist. Love a song? Put it on loop for five hours! Hate a song (you're wrong and should feel bad)? Remove it from the playlist!

Vaporwave is a huge and diverse genre, so yeah, you're gonna get a broad range of different music types. The OST is DEFINITELY heavily inspired by the city pop genre, though.
