Have you tried The Adventure Zone?

Adventure Zone is the best. Especially compared to Dan Harmon's D&D stuff because since it's the same people (three brothers and their dad) playing every episode they don't have to constantly introduce and abandon and re-introduce player characters and their DM actually puts some effort into coming up with funny and interesting campaigns instead of just being lazy and winging it and hoping that irony will carry them.

Their current campaign is a Groundhog Day/Majora's Mask scenario where they keep dying and re-living the same hour over and over trying to figure out what calamity happens at the end that kills everyone and how to prevent it, and it's awesome both from a gameplay and a comedy perspective.

Actually, who decided that it was a good idea to put this on another monthly fee, lovely streaming service?

Oh, NBCUniversal. Right, OK...

I literally never heard of Seeso until MBMBaM announced they were getting a show on it. There's no way it's not going to bomb horribly as a paid service but it is nice that some people I like were given money to work on it.

Is it still worth starting from the beginning, or is there a good jumping-in point later?

It's serialized so you have to start from the beginning, the first campaign where they're going entirely off of a book and introducing all their characters has been edited down so it moves a lot faster than when it was first release as MBMBaM one-off special.

Well I'm on episode 4 of The Adventure Zone now, I liked it from the start, so I'm hooked!

It probably helped that I've never listened to MBMBaM, so I was getting to know the players over the first couple of episodes.

MBMBaM is good, their spinoff shows are incredibly hit or miss but they work well when they're all together.

Two of the brothers are regular Polygon contributors so if you're into video games they've great for that as well.

If anything Adventure Zone's biggest problem can be that it's so lovingly crafted that sometimes it gets in way of the actual goofs and pacing. See: the Crystal Kingdom arc which took like three times longer than it should have because the DM had so much plot and music (including Vocaloid perfomances) and quirky ideas to show off and no editor. Though he seems to have taken the criticism to heart since the current arc is so open and guided by the players' decisions.

Jeff is in a sitcom making fun of millennials while Troy is in a movie pandering to them. I wonder which one will be the better career move :allears:

The Nosedive episode of Black Mirror season 3 is basically the fully realized version of MeowMeow Beenz. I highly recommend it

The MeowMeow Beenz episode was way better because it got the same point across in 1/3rd the time and didn't devolve into abject misery porn.

Eh, it was an acceptable ending. Season 5 still felt like there was a lot of studio interference to deliver certain checkboxes. It had its moments, but the characters being in stasis started to wear on the premise. Season 6 had more good moments and showed a bit of what Harmon could do without studio interference, but it was readily apparent that he had really switched over to Rick & Morty at the time.

I do hope that Harmon gets to do a studio show some other time. I'd love to see him as the show runner for a Marvel sitcom like the aborted Damage Control pilot.

I remember being surprised that he still ended season 6 with the #AndAMovie stinger considering how obviously he was sick of it all by then.

The worst was how it was a line-for-line pilot reshoot, without considering that McHale is a completely different kind of personality from O'Dowd. How can anyone take him seriously cast as a nerdy schlub?

I don't know why Ayoade agreed to that, but I know he deeply regrets it.

Thanks to the internet I am now aware of the existence of "gymcells", incels (involuntary celibates AKA dudes who become hateful self-obsessed shells of a human being because of their indignation at not having supermodels jump on their dick with no effort on their part) who actually work out and are in good shape and are usually actually attractive but still have such broken brains and spiteful personalities that no woman will touch them. I could see him pulling off something like that in a cringe comedy way, just take Jeff's narcissism and take it that much further sans the redeeming qualities and you have a hot nerd who is still unfuckable and repulsive.

In retrospect trying to build a subscription service around podcasters, a platform whose biggest appeal is that it's a ton of free poo poo you can listen to while you're working and where you download everything off of the internet, might not have been the best longterm business decision.

A giant pot leaf in a rainbow wig waving sparklers and yelling "POOOOOKEMOOOON!!!" is hilarious on its own but the context brings it to a whole other level. Well-meaning Pierce is Best Pierce.

He's been well known to be really hard to work with for years hasn't he? I remember hearing about bullying/screaming/weird outbursts and suchlike when I first got into Community, back around season 4. Not a stretch to picture him awkwardly asking someone on staff out, being shot down and then his toxicity becoming even worse.

Harmon himself has casually recalled that in the early days of Community he would show up to the writers room in a bathrobe and greet them with "'sup faggots?"
