i like schottky diodes because their schematic symbols have an ornate hilt for "hm neat i guess" slightly obscure functionality i like shockley diodes

graph posted:they only allow current to go one direction correct? theres a bunch of different kinds that do all different kinds of things, but yeah thats the main idea. like everything there are a whole bunch of aggravating and/or interesting things about them. like, if you try to use a general purpose diode, like a 1n4444 to rectify a high frequency signal, it won't work. when a forward biased diode is 'instantaneously' reverse biased, current will flow in the opposite direction until the depletion region is regenerated i had a semiconductor prof say that you don't understand a pn-junction if you can't draw the band diagram, i can't remember how to draw the band diagram of this happening though so
