At the very top tier 10k+, but only schools like Iowa, Minnesota, and Penn State pull that. The second tier is schools like Iowa State, Northern Iowa, Oklahoma State, Cornell, Missouri, and some others. They'll have around 2-3K. After that the drop off is pretty steep.

At Lehigh its out of control, pure silence until there is scoring, then tons of noise. Like an eruption, and it's deafening. The fans sit very close to the mat, not as close as they used to in the old wrestling hall, where they sat actually on the mat. Here's the really old setup: https://memories.lehigh.edu/node/1244 Here's the current setup: For really big matches they move to the basketball arena, which seats more people. This may not be true anymore but in "The Last Amatuers", John Feinstein points out that Lehigh is the only basketball scoreboard in the country that has advantage one it (a wrestling thing). We are just a big wrestling school, not s big actual school. Big matches at Iowa and other big 10 schools are huge too.

Attendance is 2K at our normal wrestling hall and 11K at the basketball arena.

For myself I hate Gilman because during the big 10 finals against Alan Waters he straight up left his feet and slammed Alan. http://www.flowrestling.org/coverage/252077-2015-National-Duals/video/761599-125lbs-Finals-Alan-Waters-Missouri-vs-Thomas-Gilman-Iowa

Yoshifan823 posted:As a coach, probably. Thoguh, what's your problem with Gilman? I have a huge problem with Iowa wrestlers under Brands in general. And their fans. Out of bounds hits, punches to the head while getting up, shots after the whistle with intent to injure. All sorts of stuff like that. And the fans eat it up and give standing ovations to it. Gilman and Evans are the current poster boys who think acting like schoolyard bullies means they are tough poo poo. I think they are both garbage human beings. Also, Brands is a rapist and everybody just kind of lets that slide. Thoguh fucked around with this message at 03:08 on Mar 21, 2015 |

Also Iowa wrestling fans invade every wrestling board on the internet with posting that makes Rivals look like literature. So because of them there's nowhere to talk about college wrestling online.

It's J'Den Cox time coming up soon, which is the main reason as a Mizzou alum (and a guy that works with his older brother on a fairly regular basis, and has also drank with him--I wouldn't be a proper Mizzou guy if I didn't do this) that I'm tuning in. God I miss doing commentary for Tiger wrestling.

Medal rounds kick off at 11 EDT today on ESPN3 and ESPNU. They can be fun to watch because the pressure is off now. All these guys are All Americans and out of the finals. The only remaining match that really matters at all is the 3rd place one. And even that doesn't mean much. So a lot of wrestlers will really open up their game for the first time in the whole tournament and let it all hang out.

But yeah - if they win every remaining match by pin they'll have 97 points. Ohio State has 93 right now and even if Stieber is the only win they get the rest of the day they'll have 97.

And Evans loses again. Guess acting like an rear end in a top hat against scrubs wasn't good preparation for him.

Finals are tonight at 8PM EDT. The numbers before each wrestler is their seed in the tournament. They'll start at 149 pounds tonight so that Stieber will be the last match. 149: #1 Houdashelt (Missouri) vs. #3 Habat (Edinburo) Habat spent most of the season at #1 but dropped after a bad loss at the EIWA conference tournament. Entering the tournament, Missouri was expected to challange for the title while Edinburo was an afterthought. But as these two kick off the finals Edinburo is sitting in 3rd place with a chance at 2nd while Missouri has faded away 157: #1 Martinez (Illinois) vs. #2 Realbuto (Cornell) Martinez seems to be an emerging star and perhaps the next four timer. Will Realbuto be able to derail the annointed freshman before he takes off like Caldwell was able to derail Taylor five years ago? 165: #1 Dieringer (Oklahoma State) vs. #6 Taylor Walsh (Indiana) Dieringer has crushed everyone he has faced all season and is looking for one more win to get his second NCAA title with one more year of eligibility left. On the other side, Walsh is the most dangerous pinner in college this year and that means he is never out of a match no matter the score. Will the heir apparent to being the poster boy of college wrestling wrap up his second title? Or will the pinner catch him on his back and derail his hopes? 174: #8 Wilps (Pitt) vs #2 Brown (Penn State) In a deep and tough weight class, Wilps was able to emerge out of the topside with a win over the #1 seed last night, while Brown took care of business on the bottom. There isn't a lot to say here. All of the top guys at this weight have beaten each other up over the past 4 years. Hopefully we'll see a takedown. Maybe even two! 184: #1 Dean (Cornell) vs. #7 Brown (Lehigh) I think we can all agree that saying no to Georgia Tech football is a good and right decision. 197: #4 Snyder (Ohio State) vs. #3 Gadson (Iowa State) Gadson, a senior who has fell just short of the finals the past two years, is looking to finally become an NCAA champion, while Super freshman Snyder is looking to start his own legacy. They've met once before this season, with Gadson coming away with a 3-2 win back in December. As you might expect. I'll be pulling hard for Gadson in this one. HWT: #1 Gwiazdowski (NC State) vs. #6 Coon (Michigan) Gwiz doesn't know, he doesn't have to wrestle himself. 125: US Zeke Moisey (West Virginia) vs. #4 Tomasselo (Ohio State) Unseeded Moisey has made a legendary tournament run, capped off by a52 second pin over Gilman last night. Tomasselo hasn't been doing so bad himself, with wins by pin, major, and tech fall on his way to the semifinals before he knocked off #1 Waters in a tight 4-2 match last night. Will the unherelded Freshman end the night as champion? Or will Tomasello end Moisey's dream run and give Ohio State some much needed team points to help in their quest to win the team title. 133: #13 Brewer (Oklahoma) vs. #3 Clark (Iowa) Brewer earned the #13 seed due to an injury shortened season, but his presence in the finals really isn't surprising. He's scored bonus points in every single match so far, including downright emberassing #1 seeded Dardanes last night in the semifinals. On the other side, Clark is carrying the torch for Iowa as their lone finalist and got here via a close 7-5 win over #7 seeded Gulibon. Will Brewer finish his triumphant return from early season injury and give storied Oklahoma State a champion? Or will Clark give the Hawkeye faithful something to cheer for? 141: #1 Stieber (Ohio State) vs. #2 Port (Edinburo) Both these guys have dominated their way through the tournament so far. Will Stieber get the last match he needs to win four titles and join the most elite of wrestling pantheons along with guys like Kyle Dake and Cael Sanderson? Or will Mitchell Port channel his inner Larry Owings and derail the champ in his last match?
